Im new here. Need head gasket advice

the blue ones are for 95/96 blocks IIRC they dont have guide pins for those side pieces.

Some of the stuff I dont know where it goes either.

I know you get 6 injector o-rings, possibly a t-stat o ring.

Make sure u get the metal LIM gaskets! And switch the Green coolant, i run that in my 07, make sure u flush ur heater core (two hoses that come out of the fire wall) and the radiator, as the green and dex will gel when mixed. Good luck!

Not to take it off topic, but if you use Prestone Any Color, you can relax a little bit with having to get every last spec of dex out of your system. Some of that stuff can continue coming out for days worth of fill up > run > drain.

Just makes things a little easier.

I flushed and flushed until the water was coming out absolutely clear, but then I filled it up with any color, drove it for a week and peeked inside the filler neck, was a green and red mess.
Drained it all out till it came out clear again, refilled it, looked inside just a few days ago and it was all green and red mixed again. Gunk just keeps dissolving out into it I guess.
 
Alright guys. I installed the LIM and car runs great other than getting hot. I drove it a few times and the car continued to get hot. I took the car to Firestone and had them do a pressure wash of the cooling system and it still ran hot. It would go up to almost the red on the gauge and then come back down and run at normal operating temp. Once the car cooled down and I drove again it would heat up to almost hot again and then back to normal operating temp. I took it back to Firestone (thinking it must have an air bubble in the cooling system). They told me that they ran a CO2 test with the blue dye on the antifreeze and it is showing that I have a head gasket leak. Sorry for the lengthy post but now my question. I work for a local parts store and we had a Felpro head gasket set returned after I told him to try the LIM before doing the head gasket. The set is for the regular 3800 (non-supercharged). Since the gasket set was opened the store is willing to reduce the price on the set to $80 for me. Do you know if the set will work for my supercharged car other than the plenum gasket? Everything else looks the same to me in both sets other than the plenum gasket but I don’t want to buy the set unless it is the same. Please any knowledge you can share would be greatly appreciated. The gasket set that I am planning to buy if it will work is part # HS9917PT3

I tried bleeding it several times. i would open the screw on top of the TS until it was running out then close it. but it would still get hot. Does a blown head gasket cause overheating?
 


if you had a blown headgasket, you would have major issues.

Coolant in the oil, burning coolant, the car would prolly not be running.

Maybe the LIM gasket didnt get set in properly and cause air to get in the system and over heat it.
 
Thanks for you help guys. Yes i did replace the T-stat when i did the LIM. From what i was told at Firestone the LIM would not cause the CO2 to be in the antifreeze. The test they ran was to identify if CO2 was present in the anitfreeze. Do any of you have any experience with this test and know if it is a accurate way to test the system? They said that it is a blue dye that they add to the system and then watch to see if it changes color and it did.
 
ive heard of it. its pretty reliable from what i understand. when my lim went bad, it leaked coolant out onto the manifold and the head.
 
I have read a bit more about the problem i am having. Do you think a pressure test should be done to make sure that the head gasket is gone? If so what is the process of testing it?
 


i use deathcool as well. only problem ive ever had is i had to flush my system when a fumbler i loaned it to topped it off with green.
 


i was unsure of the all makes all models combined with red, but he put green antifreeze in with the dex. it turned to soup and the motor overheated.

LOL, that's not what happens. The coolant turns brown and it looks nasty, but still works as coolant. Plus..soup is soupy..not thick. Your posts are starting to worry me. You've contradicted yourself in this thread a couple times.

deathcool is better for the metal than green, but its the leading source of death.

Your right about the aluminum because it's formulated for that. It's not the leading source of any death. That's lack of maintenance to the cooling system.

Your LIM gasket didnt' leak onto the head. The goop on the LIM bolts broke down or failed and allowed fluid to seep up onto the LIM. If you had a LIM failure, it's most likely you'd fill the crankcase with coolant..but that rarely happens.

To the OP. I don't trust FireFlop Flunkies at all. Nothing against anyone there that's good, but there's very few that are. Take the radiator cap off and look for bubbles as the engine heats up. If your car wasn't heating up like this before you did the LIM's, then this is an air bubble trapped in the system. I've had this happen many times and the bleeder screw doesn't help the situation. Gotta go back and reread to ensure I give you the best advice.
 
Looks like you didn't get a chance to know if it overheated.

Do a compression check. If that seems good. Warm up the car to the near overheating temps. Then pull the plugs and check it again. Compression should be off if you have a bad gasket.

Is your coolant an odd color? if not..then they didn't put a thing in there. A bad headgasket that leaks into the coolant will show up as a lot of bubbles in the coolant. Pull the cap off, start the car and watch for a ton of bubbles
 
when my lim blew coolan leaked out of the lim and onto the seam between the lim and the head.
and the green coolant deteriorated the red to the point of it clogging up the whole system, and it was a soupy mess.
had to flush it all out. it wasnt actually the green coolant not performing its job that caused the overheating
