from what i have found, it is LEGAL to have 35% all the way around and to have a 6 inch banner at the top of your windshield. previously it was illegal to have tint on your front door windows. heres the law itself and the link is below

625 ILCS 5/12-503 from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-503

"(a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any sign, poster, window application, reflective material, nonreflective material or tinted film upon the front windshield, except that a... ...nonreflective tinted film may be used along the uppermost portion of the windshield if such material does not extend more than 6 inches down from the top of the windshield."

"(2) on vehicles where none of the windows to the rear of the driver's seat are treated in a manner that allows less than 35% light transmittance, a nonreflective tinted film that allows at least 35% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by any law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver."

when was this? i have 5% in the rear, just got an apt to get 35% in the front the guy said it was cool?

better get it done before he changes his mind lol

They will tint you anything you want. Most the time you pay in cash so there is no record of them illegally tinting your windows.

i normally tint the rear darker than the front and leave the front just a few shades lighter and cops normally are okay with it..

this was the most recent that i could find. i just thought that i would post it since i was loooking it up anyways

My girlfriend interned with the police for school and they said that they wont pull ppl over for tint 90% of the time because its not worth going to court for.

ya ive been thinking about that recently i think instead of getting a legal tint i may go with 20% all around and a 8 inch banner

i think my tint is the legal limit and it looks nice. It was already done to the car b4 i got it.

even if the back is 5%?

yes. it will help because it will make it look darker, but i just dont like 20% as a tint grade in general. the only two percentages id ever run would be 35% (legal) or 15% (awesome and not 'pull me over' dark).

i did on my prix, yes. i plan on the same for my scoob.

yep, that's me.

you can still see shadows during the day looking through the windows, so its not pitch black. at night you cant see through them. only when i was way out in the country would i roll my window down slightly or lean forward and look out the corner of the windshield to see turning, but usually it was just fine.

From what I understand if the tint on any of the rear is any darker than 30% than tinting the fronts is illegal. So pretty much do 35% all around and you will be 100% good. Ill throw up a pick of mine with 35% all around. Ive had plenty of tint tickets on my old blaze in Illinois before this law. Most shops really dont know. Theres a shop by me that does high end cars alot and they know the real info and do an amazing job just expensive. Riggs bros. Just call them and ask they will tell you whats legal in Illinois.

i knew it'd seem darker, just was unsure about the different percentages. just don't want a HUGE contrast between the back windows vs the front ones.

thinking of 35% in the front, or do 15%? dont want it to be extremely dark, though it doesnt matter really. if anything, ill stick my head out the window to back up.
