ignition woes

Hello all, having strange ignition problems. I turn the key and I get a click and no crank, everything worked perfectly until I tried an hour ago. I hooked a jumper in case it was the battery but nothing. I feel like it's an ignition problem. All lights turn on gauges react but no crank. My key recently got stuck in the ignition and I had to wiggle it out aggressively, I've heard this could be it. Anyway to bypass the ignition system to verify or eliminate this? Almost positive it's not the anything in the starting system.

It is possible but I had zero symptoms before cranking it just now it started great with no hiccups before, but I do agree, based off my description it does sound like a dead starter.

mine just crapped out. you can try hitting the fat part of the body with a hammer while someone holds the key to crank. some times they come back to life, if it does after a beating its bad for sure.

as scotty said, they can sometimes not show any symptoms and sometimes they are but we dont notice. i had a ford taurus that had a symptom that would show would be a real quick hesitation when turning the key. for a split second the starter would engage but not turn. if a person wasnt paying attenention they wouldnt notice until it just wouldnt start the car.

Thanks Scotty and Tom, today I put it neutral to push the car onto a sturdier surface to jack it up. I tried the key for hell of it and it started up fine. I wonder if pushing it rotated something in the starter or elsewhere. I drove it around turned off and on a bunch of times and it's perfect again. I suspect it will crap out in a bad situation in the near future and have reliability anxiety now..sigh.

I thought starter till he stated key getting stuck in ignition. That's a sign of low voltage. Make sure your battery terminals are clean and securely connected.

Any follow up on this? Did the issue return or figure out what was wrong with it? I'm having a similar issue.
