Ignition key, won't turn to off position

I have an 03, GT. For some reason when I turn the key off, it won't go to the off position. About 50% of the time I can get it to go to the auxillary position then move it forward to the off. But that only occurs if after drivig it , putting it in park, holding down the brake with significant force, pushing in on the key and turning it. My wife can't do it no matter how many time I show/explain it. Im tired of jumping the car as the battery keeps draining as a result.

It sounds to me like I may need to change the ignition key out. But then I'll have to re-key the trunk and glovebox as they come with their own keys. Anybody know of any other fix?
 


When it does this, pop the plastic cover off the bottom of the column near the ignition switch and use a pen or something small to press the white plastic tab inside there and the key should release. And no, you just need to replace the ignition switch, not the tumbler so you can retain your original key. Search for stuck ignition key here on the forums for better details as this is common.
