ignition key help

so my friend just bought a 98 gtp and is having a little problem. he went out last night and stopped for gas well when he went to start the car back up he said the key wont budge. he bout the new switch with keys and i guess he is having trouble taking the old one out cause you have to get it into the on position cause there is something you have to push in to take the old one out? i havnt looked at it myself but just thought somebody on here could give me a few ides to have him try to either get it to start or get the old switch out.
 


tap or hit right above the cylinder with a metal hammer...sometimes a pin will stick and rattling the whole assembly will shake it loose so you can turn the key and get the ignition out..if this does work u must still replace the ignition..if this doesnt call a locksmith
