If I do this, what do I do with the MAF?

I wanna do this with my intake (except mine is n/a)... but who, what, when, where, how, why, what do I do with the MAF? :th_scratchhead:

I mean the little plug that he has running over the top in the picture. I always thought that was part of the MAF? Would it really be slower? It seems like the air intake would be more direct

The air intake is more direct, but it is going to be sucking in warm air instead of cold air like the stock setup.

But a lot of people run these hot air intakes with no problems. When you are traveling down the road, there is a lot of air moving through the engine bay. So the air is going to be a little warmer, but not much. Some notice a slower difference, some notice it is faster.

I'm gonna try it, but what do I do with that little piece that plugs in that he has running across the top of the intake? or does it even matter if it's unplugged?

not really. Keep in mind your stock and N/A, i think your car is going to be a pig with it, it will only make noise.

It's the IAT sensor. Just hang it near the filter or at least leave it plugged in. Depending on the temperature, it may raise or lower your cars timing a couple degrees, but i would not worry about it too much.

Eh, overall, not good the have this hanging like that. It needs plugged into the sensor. But with it hanging there, it is prone to fall down on the exhaust. Or rub a wire bare. Best bet is to drill a 1/2" hole in the rubber and the sensor will press in and stay there just fine. I did this on my FWIs. Started with like an 1/8" drill bit. Then 1/4". Then 1/2". The sensor will just press right in.

that's exactly what I did, and it actually did help. It's deffinatly got a lot more "pep"

The second you stop moving your IAT's will jump to well over 100* F.

I can't remember, but i think somewhere around there it will pull either one degree or two of timing from you.

I'm currently running one of these since I took the FWI out for the winter to avoid snow in filter.

Not that it matters for me, 5.6* of KR in the middle of second means I"m going nowhere fast. :) And thats with a IAT of 60* F.

yea, i kinda agree with most here, what you gained is noise and a fast (rice) feeling more then anything, obviously the throatier a car sounds the better it feels. If this was a way of making extra HP with an intake AEM would sell these for 350 instead of including all that piping into the fender that costs a lot more to engineer then a filter and clamp...i'm just sayin

I kinda think it has the same noise to it, just a little grunt like it's always had but we'll see what I decide to do with it, I love my FWI but I get bored and get ideas and decide to try them..... Sometimes they come back and bite me in the arse. Another question though, would getting a better PCM (non zzp :th_tongue2: ) make that much of a diffrence N/A?

If anything it will improve throttle response over stock intake as well as flow. There is a few places to wire the IAT and let it hang away from harm if there is no room to put it on the filter.

There is a few bad instances with ZZP's pcm's, but if I were to get a mail order pcm right now, I would not hesitate to try ZZP's first. There is much more attention to detail and they are still in business. Overkill is good but he is MIA half the time, DHP is only sold through 3800performance where you may not get a core charge back, Intense tune would be my least favorite...

Basically every pcm may have its failure, best to go with a local tuner, if not available, then pick your poison.

I got the IAT hooked up perfect, and that link you sent me scares me haha, but those are all s/c engines, and there isn't any zzp pcm's listed.. hmm.....interesting

Zoomer is a big man, also has a big ego, more than likely this list was taylored to his likings, therefore ZZP doesn't exist on there. You do see the evidence with the link to original thread at least. But i have dhp 1.0 pcm, zzp 1.0 pcm, intense 1.0 pcm files and would have to say the zzp 1.0's are fairly good. They have access to a few more tables than other tuning programs and as long as you keep the mods the pcm was calibrated for, it should not go kaboom. The problem is when people mod their engines and keep the same mail order pcm, they add mods that affect the airflow that can throw the air fuel ratio off then they might be running that extra timing the pcm was designed for and the car chips a piston...

A fair number of those people tried running tiny pulleys with no supporting mods.
