lets here ideas

ive heard putting cpu fans in compartement (not sure if it would do anything) just something i read

i was thinkin about making my own hood scoops. pretty good fabricator and welder
 


I dont think computer fans would be much of anything, kind of like you flapping your hands to create wind to keep your bedroom cool... when there's already a much bigger fan running. The engine bay is too big for them to make any difference, they'd just be swirling around the hot air that the rad fans are already blowing, or the air that's rushing in at highway speeds.

Modding the hood is probably the best way to go, scoops on the leading edge for fresh air to come in, and some openings on the end closer to the windshield for hot air on the top of the engine bay to be pushed out.

I think this would suffice for an under-the-hood fan..... should drop the temps down a few.

One simple thing is to pull off the gasket at the back of the hood.

I have also heard of people raising the back of the hood slightly to allow hot air to escape. But that is pretty ricer.

Yeah...removing the rubber gasket lets tons of air escape out the back...the only thing I hate about it is when I'm all spider monkeyin' up in the engine bay and I gotta rest my hand on it or somethin'...and I'm like ****, this used to be a nice spot to set my hand...
 
Has anyone collected hard data on that gasket being a legitimate improvement?

You should find out where the pressure differential and temps are, then install vents there.

temps = thermal probes on bottom of hood.

pressure, 2" of string taped every couple inches on the top.

Drive 35-40 mph+ and see where it stands up.

Find the best area to place the vents, and start cutting.

No matter what it'll look terrible imo.
 
Hm, just found my digital thermometer/probe setup a couple weeks back. Guess I need to find some free time.
 
Insulate the engine....that will keep underhood temps down. Baaaahaaaahaahahahaaha.


Most important is the intake air temperature (hot as possible for fuel economy, cold for power) and electrical items. Sadly the radiators' hot air is directed at the engine.

first one works if you move your battery to the trunk.

second one almost can't.

figure it out, then get back to me.
