• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I was getting my struts installed last week, and the guy came out and said that if he pulled the stabalizer link off on my 04 gp he would need new ones to put back in. He said once the old one was loosened he could not bolt it back on. I purchased the new ones at the VERY marked up price because i thought I had no other choice. DID I GET SCREWED? i am thinking yes

But it was already on the lift and almost apart at that point.... he said no matter what they would be ruined.

Sometimes they get rusted out to where you cant hardly get them off without stripping them. They may be required to say you'll need new ones because they'll likely ruin either the bolt, the nut, or the threads taking them off. FWIW you could've drove without a sway bar and got your own to put on later...you'll just have more body roll.

ya... there is not rust because the car just got to wisconsin this year.... i came to the conclusion they were just making their quick buck

Rust is not the issue, its just the design of the link, some times you can not get a hold of the ball good enough to hold it with out breaking the link.

Biggest problems with links ...assuming you are talking about the fronts is either corrosion or the shallow bolt. GM designed the bottom of the link to have a super shallow head on the bolt. This often makes it tough to get a socket on, and rounds easily. Cutting is usually the only option. Links cost about $10 each on the high side and take no time to put on. Front links shouldn't need to be done when doing struts.

Rear links which would need to be removed when you swap struts can be a pain. Be happy that he swapped them as they are very small from the factory adn the replacements are much beefier. Also a bit more. I want to think ~$20-25 a side w/o looking the price up.

ya he charged for all 4 and it ran 250 bucks which is complete bs, but i woulda had to pay for an hour labor at that point to have them pull it down till i could get my own links
.... considering no place in town had them
