I've got a big problem. I put washer fluid in my car and now my hood won't latch back down. Do I need to replace the hood lock or have other people ran into this problem. I can take the lock and push it down with a screwdriver but it won't stay down. It's like the pin that is holding it in place doesnt engage. Right now I'm holding it down with washcloths so I won't scratch the paint and a ratchet strap. Has any one replaced one of these before and what does it entail?

Usually they just get gunked up.... try cleaning it and lubricating the latch. Make sure the cable isn't sized up. Go in the car and make sure the cable retracted back. I have had mine not retract back and it wont latch then. If none of that works... replacing the latch is an easy job. Couple bolts and un hook the cable and its off. EASY!

This is what I'm working with right now and it's just a matter of time that igoing to mess up my paint

There is a claw that grasps the hood bracket, make sure it is springing back when you realease the hood (pull the "realease hood" handle)

this part is working the way it should it just wont latch once you push it down. if im able to replace this with only a socket set im going to do it in about ten min. should I be able to? im tired of fighting this damn thing

ive been calling parts stores no one freaking carries this thing. there like we cant even order it its not listed. sounds like im going to a junk yard. hopefully i can find one that is open on a saturday

Well it want the latch out is definatly the cable. I pulled ob it with a pliers and it wouldn't move.how hard are they to tear out and replace? Thanks for the help guys

I'd shoot some p-blaster into the hood end and work it gently until it frees up.

I've never replaced one but I'd think "pain in the ass" would apply.

Nope the cable is binding or freezing making it so the hood will not open correctly. It's dumb and I'm gona have to replace it sometime. Probably after it warms up or if I can find a well heated garage

That cable runs into the firewall kind of behind the driver's side strut tower, underneath some other stuff. Crappy location. Good luck!
