I over tapped the LIM, pick your poison

Plugging the coolant ports with 1/4 NPT plugs. I ran one tap too long and lost the taper so the plug won't snug up. So, the plan is to slather the threads with:

a. Red loctite
b. JB Weld
c. RTV
d. Other, please specify

Which would you use?
 




I did the same thing and used jb weld to fix it, it might be overkill, but I put some rtv on top when I was done
 
id go with JB weld in the threads, then run the plug into the jb weld and let it set up over night before using it, then rtv the top when the blower goes on.

with the side cover off the lim you ca reach the bottom of the hole with a finger to smooth out/ remove any extra jb weld on the inside.
 
Speaking of side cover, anybody use anything other than the factory paper gasket to seal that up? Nobody local has one in stock. I don't know why FelPro doesn't put one in their LIM gasket kit.
 
i dont see why you cant just rtv that cover back on. if it does leak its easy enough to add a gasket later on.

the magnum metal lim gasket kits comes with that gasket and new injector o rings, coolant elbow o rings and t stat gasket. for 40 bucks @ rockauto for future reference
 


Thanks, I went with FelPro and it comes with all that, everything BUT the $%^$#@ side cover gasket. Heading up to Advance, will pick up some form-a-gasket and see how it works. Still have some cleaning of the LIM to do, must have never had the PCV changed, the inside is coated with oil.

Read an old post by Bill and also did some porting of the coolant channels at the crossover right below that cover.
 
Make sure you clean the old gasket of real good, when I did my lim, I didn't clean the hardened gasket of at all and it leaked real bad until I cleaned it off. If you don't have a gasket, I would make sure the rtv sets up good before adding coolant

AC Delco sells just the coolant bypass gasket. Look on their site.
