• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I need opinions...

Life has been a little rough for me in the financial area part of the reason is I just moved out to my first place a few months ago. Now I really like my 04 gtp and would hate to get rid of it but I been considering as one of my options to preserve money, selling it. Here's the problem I still owe about $4600 on it(still a long road of payments sadly) and I was just gonna buy a beater or another 3800 off the street with cash and not worry about payments. Plus with a few repairs I need mainly minor, and trying to get back in school and being in a relationship its rough keeping up with this car at times. So what would you guys suggest or anybody been in this situation?

I kinda look at it like this, what if you sell it and the next car you get blows up or breaks something major right away. You kinda just put yourself back into spending the same amount of money and could be even more.

Atleast you know that your car runs currently and doesnt need anything repaired that hinders its performance. Always sucks when money is tight, but it could get worse.

Yeah you're right about that fact. I should have just kept my old 01 gt and top swapped like I had planned lol. Been kicking myself deep down the past 2yrs but its in the past now. Between gas and my bills I just keep on being eaten out of my wallet.

Maybe pick up a part time gig? It's a roll of the dice.. You sell the GP then go by another car.. Theres no telling what foreseen issues that new to you car has. I rather keep what you have since you know the history on it since you've owned it. Ever think of possibly refinancing it for some slightly lower payments? Could give you a little extra money to get by on but of course will take longer to pay it off.

Well that's the thing I did refinance earlier this year which it did bring my monthly payments down nicely but basically once I moved I really felt this money sting. You right on me knowing this car, I know it well at this point its just part of the issue when it comes to money. I do work part time right now decent hours pay is whatever, been getting by but I know I could be making more for my age. I'll just keep the car for now but worst case scenario it may have to go.

Do you have any other things you could cut back on/out to save some $$? If you have Satellite or Cable you could cut that down or eliminate it altogether. Maybe highspeed internet? Could back the speed down to save some $. Live in the dark, lol... Only use lights where you need to. Maybe take the bus to work? Change the plan on your cell phone to a lower one?

Just throwing these out there. Not sure if any apply to you, but I've seen some of my friends go through this type of money crunch and they couldn't seem to find a way to trim the fat and then wonder why they ended up nearly broke. They would rather have 60MB internet, a 1000 channels to watch and a huge cell bill vs. saving money.

Most of us could probably be making more for our age, lol... I feel you on that one. Good for you to go back to school. Maybe talk to the financial people there and see what kind of assistance they can provide without digging yourself into a huge student loan. You might just qualify for some type of grant/scholarship and not even know it.

You said you moved into your own place, how about a roomate etc. Maybe move your "relationship" in with you. Not judging and definately don't know your situation, I've tried to never go into something that was going to put me that tight.

Which... is how I squeaked by after buying a house. Second month, taxes were due and there was no escrow.. being a new homeowner I had no idea it was all on me and that escrow should have been figured it. Damn payments went up by $200-$300 and my potential buffer was gone with me scraping along. I totally know the feeling.

Another way to get by is consider how you buy food, where and when you do stuff. Instead of a movie out with the other half, have movie night at home and snuggle time. Bars and drinking/eating out gets expensive quick, bring food to work and invite friends over instead of heading out. A little planning and a few friends can make being at home just as fun.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Fortunately most of what's been said applies to me,didn't mention it but my girlfriend does live with me and we split the rent/bills. I do cut back on electricity and cable/internet is included with my rent so no worries there. I have figured a few things I could scale back on not to mention groceries are expensive as hell now days. I will have to sacrifice my future modding plans and hold them off for awhile. Just need to maintain this vehicle and try to pay off as fast as possible.
