So yesterday i bought a 98 grand prix gtp supercharged & when i bought the car the only thing i was given is one key & nothing else so i drove it to a family friend's shop and when i got there i locked the door .... so with only the key as soon as i unlocked it and opened the door the alarm went off & i tried to start it & it started for about 3 seconds maybe & the engine turned off , i asked GM about it & they want me to pay $133 plus tax for a new remote & i have to pay for a toe truck to bring it there & they told me a tech person has to program it for me , i am just wondering , is there any way i can just make the alarm let me drive my car , can i turn it off , please help me i dont wanna spend an arm & a leg.

It's the way it was locked. That set the alarm. You can lock it and then unlock it w/o having the alarm go off. That info should be in the owners manual.

then measure teh resistance in the chip in your key. And buy another one off Ebay. Have Walmart cut it (tell them to charge you like you bought the key there). Add in the two remotes you'll buy and program ....you'll have two sets of keys.

Ive ordered a key fob from GM it will be here tomorrow but is it even possible to program a key fob while the alarm is activated ? GM is telling me my original key doesn't have a chip , they said the 98 never had one??? I'm not sure whats going on?

Is there a way to deactivate my alarm?
