Hey everyone, So i have a 1999 grand prix gt with 116,000 miles on it. it runs fine untill it warms up then the hard shifting and the whining begins, then when i go right it clinks and pops. I have new cv joints and wheel hub bearings. what else oh my gas mileage is horrible i had a tune up just got a new crankshaft sensor. i get like 200 miles a tank it sucks, so whatever you think it is just tell me cause mechanics out here dont seem to know anything about my car. Thanks

X2 id start with a trans pan drop and filter change for the hard shifting. The gas mileage is going to be hard to tackle. Plugs/wires in good shape? Air filter clean? Any check engine lights? The popping. id check the LCA

i had the trans fluid and filter changed, and it was good for a lil then it started back up, and i have brand new wires and plugs, just cleaned my filter cone, and my check engine light says i have a misfire in bank 3 oh and i need a new maf sensor. so that might help the gas a little lol

Does the whining happen when you turn the wheel? My guess is power steering pump. the MAF should help your gas milage

a misfire on cylinder 3 would be either a bad plug, bad wire to the plug or its loose, and if those check out I'd look into the coilpack itself. The ICM is the last resort.

A new maf will help if its indeed bad and since your plugs and air filter are new, then maybe look at your o2 sensor.

okay ill go check the plugs and wires, and i had an o2 sensor put in like a year ago. so i dont think its bad. man idk my car gives me a headache. lol

You could try unplugging the MAF to see if the car runs differently. If nothing changes, then sure enough it's bad. If it goes bad it goes rich so not to lean out the engine and burn up pistons. And of course gas mileage goes to sh!t.

okay it ran the same when i unplugged it, so i guess i should get one lol i had a new code saying im running lean in bank one or something. and your fiero/lambo is nice i wanna build one.

If you decide to change the trans filter and fluid, find yourself a trans go shift kit. That should help with the shifting. As far as your gas mileage, I get about the same amount of miles out of a full tank with almost 50/50 driving on the highway and streets. The gearing on the GT's is different than a GTP. So that plays a part in the mileage as well. Same if you have larger wheels. Once you get the maf replaced, scan the car for any more codes.

alright well i guess i should look for a job now lol, im gonna try to find a new tranny cause thats what i think it is. well i need a new rim first i bent mine the other day by hitting a brick in the road. i just want a new car lol
