Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

i need a new phone

Bio248

DUI BABY
so christmas time is coming up, ill be coming into some much needed cash money. that being said, ill have the funds for a new phone.

here is the background story: my blackberry storm (ONE) sucks. ive beaten it to death and it still keeps going, which is great. it's too bad that the phone itself is a pile of ****. the screen stopped 'clicking' in the most frequented corner of the phone, the screen sticks (from an entire brandy/coke being spilled, that's another story), it lags horrible, freaks out on it's own, etc. either way, it's time for something new.

i am interested in smart phones only. if i wanted an old school flip phone that i could flush down the toilet for fun i wouldnt be having this conversation with you all. also, do not recommend and iphone. i am clearly not a trendy hipster, nor do i want to be lumped into that asinine phone fad. i dont really have any brand loyalty, but apple can suck my balls.

i have verizon. i need a phone that they offer, so keep that in mind.

here are what i've figure out i NEED in a phone so far:

- 4G capable (ill mainly use it for below option)
- hot spot capable (need to tether for the interwebs when im on the road)
- if i drop calls because it touches my face funny, i will be pissed off a lot

here is what i am unsure about in a phone:

- dont care for slider keyboards. they make the phone bulky, full touch screen is A-OK with me.
- doesnt have to be a crazy multimedia phone. i dont watch movies and ****. the most i will do is listen to some music if im on a long car ride or something.
- battery life. i DO NOT charge my phone at work or in the car. people that do are retarded. it needs to last all day until i put it on the charger when i go to bed. (i know there are ways around this, like not running 4G and WiFi, etc.)
- i would like it to be user friendly, but not something a 4 year old can figure out (see iphone comments above).
- i'm not a retard and i won't destroy a phone. that being said, i dont need something indestructible. my phone is either in my pocket, or on the table/thing in front of me.

the fact of the matter is that i dont NEED a phone that does everything and anything, but i like the option. having navigation, speedy internet usage, useful app downloads, etc. is great and i want to have the option of doing it given that i need it. right now my BB storm fails at just about all of that.

phones that have interested me lately:

- motorola razr
- samsung charge
- htc rezound
- motorola bionic

i know there are more, but there are so damn many that i have no idea which one would make a better phone FOR ME.

help a brother out. compare and contrast these things with me.

i just got the droid incredible 2 with verizon for free and i was against it at first but free is free and im happy with it

im willing to pay a premium for a phone. i have a discount and im signing a new contract anyway, so the most expensive phone in the lineup is $250. i dont want to settle. i did that with this blackberry pile of dook and look where that got me.

check out best buy, they have some phone that they say are 599.99 but are selling for free with a new contract(how i got mine)
but they have others at really good prices compared to the verizon store

im going to get it straight off the verizon site. i am not down with dealing with any retarded vendors anymore. standing in the store and waiting for them to do things is stupid. i know how to activate the phone and set things up, i dont need them.

google tells me the same **** i already know: what they can do and their downfalls. i want personal experience from you guys, but thanks for the offer.

moto rzr if anything. I payed a ton for my droid x like 2 weeks b4 newer better phones came out. If I'm not on my phone playing games non stop my battery will last forever!!. Seriously if I just have it on and only use it for normal phone calls and texts it will last like 5 days. I get great reception with mine. Figure most motorolas use close to same battery.

Nick,

I'm no phone guru at all. I do have a droid though (girl has the iPhlop 4). IMO you are right on about going droid and what you are asking is good stuff.

Navigation, Droid has built in Nav in it's native applications (preloaded), it uses an blue Pontiac emblem as an icon. Use that, turn on satelite view and you'll cream your pants. I returned a $400 Garmin after using the Nav on my droid once.

HotSpotting: Typically Verizon charges extra for that. However it is possible if you root the phone to open up that feature without the cost. Only caution I'd give is be wary of the renewal/new contract if you are currently on a plan with unlimited data. They might try and force you out of the true unlimited plan as they've changed things up on plans.

Battery life: I have a Droid X and the battery after a year and a half of owning the phone will last me all day if i do very little with it. If I stream music etc, it'll put a hurtin on the battery in say 4-6 hours.

Dropping calls: I know most phones when entering a call have a proximity sensor or something that automatically keeps them from button pushing against your face.

Soon the true phone guys will enter the thread. So til then..you know the drill. Chill out and drink a beer.

I'm with Devan, I got the Incredible 2 in August and I've been happy with it. About it dropping calls when it touches your face, mine goes to sleep when it senses against skin. Ive never had issues with it dropping calls that way.
Battery life is about a day, moderate use I can get away with not charging it till I go to bed.
But it's not 4G capable, I've been happy with the 3G.

Just my .02

after reading those specs it doesnt look to be that bad, ive just never been a fan of the razor line since i went though 4 for them in a month
but the specs do look to be a good phone, i would like to see how it works with the new Android software 2.3 ive heard some sprint phone had some issues with it

no useful input, you're awesome.

the new razr is nothing like the old razr. therefore you're just feeding into NOTHING.

Not too familiar w/Verizon phns but Android is Android. I currently have a iPhone and i love it. I still def got love for the Android tho. I think the new Razr looks pretty sick. Big ass screen and its 4g and Hot Spot capable. The Droid X is pretty nice too but me personally, I would go for the Razr.

DISCLAIMER FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ANDROID
To make batt life last, you NEED to dwnload a Task Killer...just search for it in the market...its the little green dude holding the round recycle bin. That was the best one i've had. I txt/Tweet/FB/Internet search all day and by the time i got home i was just barely at half a battery

Except Droid forums will tell you that task killers can eff things up by terminating processes w/o closing them. Your phone will close things on it's own if you allow it. I've been doing this for nearly a year and it's working better than task killing.

Right thats why when you get the task killer, you add everything that isnt supposed to be killed to the ignore list...wallah no more fubared processes. I've been dealing w/Task Killers for the longest too and never had any issues.

why not just close the program when youre done using it like a normal person? thats what i do with my current phone...
