I walked into pepboys thinking im getting a wheel alignment until my hopes went up in smokes. The associate said that he cannot align the car because the right axle isnt installed all the way...(what??!!). Also the left wheel bearing is loose...(thanks Sams Club). He also wanted to inform me that my p/s pump and rack and pinion is leaking. They want $740 excluding the rack and pinion. Any other solutions?? Wheel bearing seems easy as well as the ps pump but the axle is my biggest concern. 97 grand prix btw...thanks

time to get under the car and check these things for yourself. then repair them.

if the rack is leaking out the dust boots its shot and needs to be replaced. no sense in an alignment if you need a new rack.

then again. i just had a friend who went there for a cel light, they wanted 3 grand to fix stuff that was fine. guy had a tube fall off his intake tube, cause a lean code and a maf code, why they wanted to replace his catrs ill never know.

that being said^^^^^ f pep boys. those guys are all criminals in my book.

I hear that. Im confused about the dust boot part. I should have took a pic of it when they had it up. The axle was about an inch and a half out of socket. Cant it be pushed back in place??

what side? they dont sit all the way in flush. and if you push it in and pull on it, it will move. i dont think the guy knows wtf hes looking at.

have you ever changed one of them on your car? if not theres no reason for it to be un clipped.

your not to far from me. im in Hackensack off rt 80. if you need help swapping some parts let me know. ive done my own rack two times now, its cake to do. just looks worst then it is.

do some looking around yourself first, turn the wheels all the way to the left, then look in from the back side of the pass side front tire. look for the oil filter, to its left is a sensor with a green plug, see if thats wet with oil. if so that sensor need to be replaced, it drips right on the axle shaft.

if it is the trans seal thats leaking the axle dont need to be un clipped for it to leak, some times seals fail. unless you have changed the axle i cant see how its not pushed in all the way either. like i said, you can push it in more when its clipped. they move.
