I finally bought one... Where to start?!?!

Any advice? What helped you all learn the fastest and easiest?

When making changes, only make one change at a time and drive the car to make sure what you changed was what you wanted to change.
 
there is a program called eddies table thingy. best thing out there for dialing in your MAF for fuel trims. Excel is your friend for working with the tables.

like said make small changes and check results. any changes need to be smooth and progressive. if your fighting KR or a fuel ratio... remember that its not always the cell where the KR is that is causing the issue.. the cells right before it could have caused the condition that created the KR. so a lean condition at 4700 rpm could have caused the KR your seeing at 4800. in this case you would want to increase fuel in the 3600rpm and then in 4800 to correct the issue.

just read thru the tuning stickies and get access to the HPtuners website and the powrtuner.com site as there is plenty of information on them for tuning. and if we cant answer your tuning questions here there should be an answer on one of those boards too

Read, Read, Read, Read, Read, make simple changes, Read, Read, Read, Scan, Scan, Scan, simple change, Read, Read, Read, Scan Scan, Scan, Repeat.

Buy a tuner, tune blindly until you get sick of going through parts then sell tuner.


One of the most important things to realize when tuning with fuel trims or a narrowband is that actual time it takes for fuel trims to relearn, don't rush.

Been reading on TheOtherNick's thread. Pretty informational if I don't say so myself. Also the tuner should be here today or tomorrow. It's in KC right now according to USPS and KC is only 54minutes from my house. :D
 
MAF is stock. Although i have a ported TB and an open cone on the end of the TB Bellows. The fuel system is a work in progress. I got a new pump in a box waiting to be put in. I'm kinda lost on how to put that thing in being I have to take apart my stock canister to do it with no instructions. I'm not crazy about doing that but i'll get it done sometime.

If so, to start, after you get familiar with it, I'd start with a maf calibration.

Start with a stock maf table.
 
Yes Sir. Stock wiring and injectors. I'm gonna give the stock wiring a go before I upgrade. I understand it probably needs upgrading, I just ran out of Christmas money.

You should be able to leave the injector settings stock and just play with your PE to find a nice commanded AFR, then tune your maf from there.
 
I like to do a lot of learning via comparison tuning, with other vehicles. The more I look at, the more I understand why things are changed a certain way. Reading is good too. I have a couple of binders just for referencing if need be.

HPT forum has a lot of good info, so do corvette forums.
Garys Tuning Guide/ Open tuner notebook are good for learning things too.
 
I think i might have Gary's tuning guide. Yup I have it! Got it from Geo on HP tuners. He also told me to check out RegalGS.org
 
Jerry's tuner guide is litterally ALL wrong, I have debunked his lies and misinformation in the sticky here on the forum.

I would leave the maf stock, make small adjustments to your IFR if you have consantly rich or lean LTFT's, and dial your PE in to compensate for your most likely too small pulley. If you have your o2 sensors in and enabled, tuning fueling stuff is a horrible waste of time, and it will never get you anywhere.

Other than that, focus your time into bumping timing up, alot, and fiddle with your transmission till you get it shifting the way you want. There is not that much "tuning" that can be done on a car that has all stock sensors.
