• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I can't figure this one out

My 2000 gtp cranks and runs for a few seconds and shuts back off. I tried the resistor by-pass with the paper clip. The resistor went up on me many years ago and the by-pass worked. This time it's not helping. It still cranks runs for a few seconds and dies. I don't know what else to check.

Never done a paper clip way but have bent the tab of the fuel pump relay to put the pump into high speed mode.

Otherwise the security system will cause the car to run for 1-2 seconds and shut off if it's active. Try a security relearn with the key or try another key.

the fp resister (fp stuck on high) mod has nothing to do with the vats/passkey3 system

bad key chip, failed reader around the ign lock cyl, relearn or wiring problem.

connect charger,
try to start car, let die, leave key in run position for 10minutes and a few seconds, off for less than 30seconds, back on for10+, off, then back on for another 10+ then it should be learned and let it start and run
doors/windows/hvac should be oiff and not used while learning

without a scantool the 10minute relearn procedure will have to be repeated 2 more times.
2000 does not used transponder keys to my knowledge; its passlock not passkey....passkey with have a + or pk3 stamped on the blade of the key.

Update....It needs a theft deterrent module. It starts and runs but the security light keeps flashing. I don't know if i should let it sit until i get one from a junked car or take a chance and drive it. I'm not buying a new one that's just not going to happen. The dealer quoted me some outrages price of $350 bucks. f@#! that.

I bought a overkill tune and had overkill shut off the security crap, but my problem was slightly different, my car wouldn't start and would have to the relearn, prettt much anytime I wanted to start the car lol

Having to do that relearn when you're away from home doesn't always work because you're battery will most likely go dead before you complete it. When i did my relearn instead of a battery charger i just used my other car and hooked up the jumper cables and let it run until i was done. Unless you know the person very few if any strangers are going to let you sit there with jumper cables hooked up to their car for a 1/2 hour.
