I was thinking of purchasing one of these reprogrammable PCM's; but they are like $350. Does anyone know if they actually work well and are a good thing to buy?
 


Spend about the same and pick up a used DHP or drop $150 more and get HPTuners. Either of those two offers a lot more as far as tuning goes. Or, if you don't plan to go any/much further with your mods, you can buy a pre-programed PCM from one of the vendors for $100. Overkill and INTENSE tend to have the better PCM's on the market.
 
The only tuners that should be purchased for our car's are DHP or hptuners.


Any other tuner is garbage.
 
hmm.. the HP tuners seem kind of like overkill for me.. I dunno i'm just looking to add some horsepower and get a little bit quicker... not really to sure about the advanced tuning
 
Well if that is the case just get a tuned PCM from overkill or intense.
 
hypertechs are nice to have for easily changing tires sizes/gearing/"tuning" and all the other bs they do but they are overpriced and the hp gains are minimal.
 


Interesting.. but I would rather not have to send my PCM in and everything. Plus I feel like I know very little about tuning and have alot more to learn about our cars in general. I am looking for something to add the hp and torque promised by hypertech from their product. Does anyone actually have the hypertech power programmer III? 16hp gain and significant torque gain is promised, but i'm skeptical if this plug and play method really works that's all. I'm not planning on too many more future mods for my car, and I'm currently only running a k&N CAI.
 
the biggest issue with the hypertech is you are limited as to how you can change things. i had one for my last vehicle and it was cool but very limited. you either turn the "tuning" on or off. Its not different than a reprogrammed pcm excpet that the pcm can be adjusted to whatever mods you have. also you have to remember that when they say 16hp gain it doesnt mean 240hp+16hp =256hp. that 16hp might be gained at 2500rpms and your peak hp gain might be something like 3hp.
 
The pre-tuned PCM's are actually other computers that have been flashed for your year and model car and shipped to you. You replace yours with theirs and ship your old one back as a core charge.

In all honesty: Buy a PCM from one of our vendors. They know exactly what to do with these cars.

Has anyone looked at this Hypertech #32002 PCM Tuner lately? The price $149.00 really looks great, but it does NOT post our 2000 Grand Prix /GTP in its compatibility list.

Interestingly enough what caught my attention is it's COMPATIBILIY with our Grand Prix /GTP "cousin" the Regal GS. Same part number for both 2000 PCM's is 09380717, transmission (4T65E MN7, known commonly as HD), engine (L67), supercharger (M90). GM PCM is 09380717 for both vehicles. #32002 PCM Tuner? Any comments are welcome but please, has anyone actually TRIED it on a GTP? Thanks.
 
email them. i dont see why it wouldnt work.. if it does what dhp does id get one and start learning to tune.
 


it could be useful for someone who is lightly modding, but otherwise for anyone going beyond a normal (~3.4 setup) is going to need way more control and would be better off with an actual tuner.
