i went to change the direction setting and it is stuck on defrost. it wont change at all. how can i fix this?
 


sounds like you have a vacum leak that door is controled by vacuum check around the battery thats where they normaly are leaking
 
I would agree that you need to check for a vacuum leak. The most common spot is under the battery / fuse box area. This is where I found mine.

I think there is a vacuum line coming from the top of the engine, going to the pass side strut tower, and running down next to the fuse box. This line will feed into a T fitting. One line of the T fitting will go into the pass compartment and control the HVAC controls. Follow this line all the way around and check for leaks or breaks. This is how I found mine anyway.

what does this line look like? is it a rubber hose or a hard plastic line?
 


yep, found it. didnt even really have to look. it was snapped completly apart at the clippy on the strut tower. i feel like an idiot
 
don't feel like an idiot i had the same problem but i even looked at that line like shouldn't this be connected lol. then it dawned on me the next day.
 
Sorry, just getting around to answering now. But yes, they are hard plastic lines. I had a section of a couple inches missing. I used some rubber vacuum line that fit snug over the plastic vacuum line. Used heat shrink tubing on the ends, and then some silicone RTV on top of that. Works fine for me!
 


This is exactly what is wrong with my car right now! Good thing I looked all the way through and found this thread and another one cause I was just about to post this same question. The search function does not work for me for some reason.
 
I went outside with a flashlight and everything seemed to look ok but I'll do a more lengthy search tomorrow hopefully a vacuum leak is the culprit.
 
so I've been out there for a couple hours now and I can't find anything. I've ran my fingers down all the lines and still nothing. I also traced the one into the firewall but it looked and felt pretty solid, although I didn't cut the plastic covering for about 14 inches of it. I'm going to get a vacuum tester and check, but in the mean time does anyone have any suggestions. Thank you
 
Alright I've been outside all day working on my vehicles and I finally found the culprit in the defrost only crime. Behind the glove box in the passenger floorboard there is a vacuum box almost directly up against the firewall. Theres like 5 colored vacuum hoses coming out of it and the purple one was pinched up against another cluster of wires. I pulled the extra slack through and zip tied the cluster away and it works perfectly. So far easy fixes on this car and I'm doing the body work next week and going to undercoat the underbody cause the rocker panels are rusty.
 
Just found this site and boy....what a find. I had no control over ac/heat vents. Thanks to threads by MTXGTP, ZEF-66, and3800 SE, I have fixed the problem ( vacuum hose break under the fuse box.) Also repaired the water deflector that was leaking water onto the passengers side floor. Thanks guys.
