yeesh talk about a waste of $

Well maybe if bill would make a thread on the poor mans hv3, people wouldn't be buying them lol.
And why are dormans l36 uims junk? Stock is junk too.
I wish I had a picture of the ones I've had in my posession, but I know for a fact the L36 one was black and the L26 one was red. Whether that's intentional to differentiate or just the colors they happened to use is still anyone's guess without more input. I trimmed the L36 one to fit an L26 but I personally thought the fitment was wonky. In spite of trimming very little at a time, there were always some gaps on a few cylinders, but maybe I'm just bad at trimming them
And damnit Bill, I wish we could do a dyno comparison of your DIY HV3 versus the real thing to actually convince people to stay away from them. It's quite a lot of money for a hunk of plastic, I'd have never gotten mine if I didn't get it used for super cheap. As far as NA 3800's go, I think even basic mods should only be bought at a fraction of their price. Topswap or go for mpg.
stock is certainly a stronger type of plastic than the ****box dorman one and the revised GM is way better. If you ever have the chance, take a Phillips screwdriver and just start stabbing the OE one and then a dorman one and see what happens. I did this in a junkyard to see if a GM tech was bull****ting and he wasn't.

Bill HV3 by K H, on FlickrThe other night I was talking to HighOctaneRacing aka Kyle and he was telling me that the L26 HV3 is one color and the L36 one is another color. One red and the other black. I don't remember ever hearing this and remember there was an HV1, HV2 etc etc and believed the different colors were simply one of the other versions or the color of crap that was used for the run.
Please.. fill me in..

Well I haven't tested dorman's, but I did try smashing the old stock one and couldn't. I threw it on the ground, and hit it with a sledge and it didn't break lol. BUT the egr and coolant port area was my main concern.
Hmm. Well then when it's time for mine I'll use the revised GM one. hope I don't end up with the old GM one.
Thanks Mike..
Kyle, Mike's the kind of guy to have tried each and every combo. Hell.. at one point he even did a vacuum pump. Reason why I asked at one point was probably someone that I knew was looking for one. Hell...I've even bought a couple when I thought about doing various setups in the past. This isn't the only 3800 I've owned, it's the 7th Regal. Yes, I've had 7 Regals.
