HV3 insert installation help

im bout to put on my hv3 insert and i need to know will it work with the stock bolts or do i need longer ones? and do i need to tune or do anything to the MAF before i put it in? or will it run just fine
 


The insert replaces the stock runners, no repacement bolts needed. No tuning needed either. I did mine like two years ago, yell if you need help:)

A tune makes a huge difference though as hv3 does not make any extra power untill 5000+ rpms, stock car shifts out at 5500-5600?
I had a tune before the hv3 so i felt a defference in topend power. HOWEVER I just got my car retuned from overkill(incar tune not box tune, on 91 octane also not 87) and he said i was running pretty lean so he added fuel and more timing. and now it pulls even harder, very satisfied on the hv3 but tune makes or breaks the experience.

totally agree, he made a thread about a tune as well, but for hv3 a tune isn't required.

for the 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 in a 1999 GT.

A tune is only required if the stock settings do not work well with your specific vehicle or you have modified the VE of the engine.

Its said our cars are 99.9% MAF driven vs the MAF/SD combo of the LS1 pcm but older vehicles reportedly benefit from a proper VE tune.

Another benefit is your car will actually run if your MAF fails.

And let's be honest, a GM electronic part failing? Don't think it won't happen to you.

Especially now that these cars are past their expiration date.
 


i wont tune untill i install all the parts i want to installed to save me money was just askin to double check if the hv3 needed a tune or not haha, no sense in tuning 2 times mine as well wait, and i thought hv3 pulled at 4k rpms and not 5k?
 
like 4700 rpms, their 20 extra hp is actually seen at 6000+ rpms, you car isnt going to hit that without a tune...
zzp's lil link is down atm or id have the exact rpms when gains start.
 
ah gotcha, either way i wanted more top end power anyway so ill be happy with this, however after i install everything i plan on getting am gonna need to work on acceleration a tad bit as well
 
I shall have dyno's of my HV3 + GT2 slowness come the fall.

Honestly just adding headers made the top end keep pulling.

And that was without any other mod but an intake.

But those were 1 3/4 primaries.

This time around I'll have 1 5/8ths primaries.

Should provide a little more midrange/low end.

Ill be going to the track, maybe even next friday. grand bend 1/4 mile, they lay down lots glue lol hopefully helps my times.
 


well got my hv3 insert intalled, i dont feel a ******* thing lol, lost some low end power which was expected, however it does feel like the cars breathing alot better and gluides pretty damn well but i dont feel much difference performance wise
 
stock tune shifts early, and it works best with a non-stock valvetrain.

That 30 CHP number is with ER rockers already installed.

i thought it was garunteed 15 whp without additional mods, and the 20+ was with the rockers/cam, well either way after the headers and tune up it should run alot better, then ill get rockers in the nearish future
 
ZZP's page claims 9 WHP peak and 30 WHP at 6000 rpm.

This test vehicle had ER rockers, 180 * stat and some other thing i can't recall.
