HUD problem

Hello again,

I need some advice, im hoping someone has some experiece directly in this area that could lend some knowledge,

My HUD cannot be seen during the day, I figured that the previous owner may have just had the windshield replaced and tried saving a few bucks by not having a non-HUD windshield installed, But I drove it the other night for the first time at night (ive only had the car for about a week  ) and i noticed the HUD gets really dim to where you can hardly see it at night to regular brightness, its fades in and aout in a cycle of about 2 mins. I was wondering, is this a problem with the HUD unit on the top of the dash, or possibly a problem with the HUD dimmer switch on the panel?

Thanks in advance for replies.

It is a problem, usually, with the photo sensor in the hud itself. There is a fix. You have to pull the hud out and re-solder the photo sensor to the board. I know there is a write up on that somewhere. I may have it on my PC at home. Its not terribly difficult as long as you know how to solder.

That said, make sure your brightness control is all the way up on the dimmer on the dash. I have never heard of any problems with that switch but its always a possibility.

I've a Q about HUDs as well. Is there anyway to make the display brighter? For example, my first two digits are dimmer than my third (100 MPH+). is that just normal wear & tear or is there something i can do about it to make the common part of the display brighter. (I do have the dimmer switch turned all the way up.) I've read somewhere in the forums about changing bulbs? would that work/how is it done?

well, i took my hud out today and found out that there is not anyway to easily brighten the screen other than cleaning it. besides that, i think i've answered my own question.
