• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

HUD Problem. Please help.

I've had my 04 GTP for at least 6 months and the HUD has worked perfectly so far. I got in the other day and I noticed that it wasn't showing up on my windshield. I checked the fuses and everything was alright, I even replaced it just to make sure and still no HUD.

I ended up looking at a different angle and noticed that the display was as far UP as it could go (Impossible to see while driving.) Problem is: the button to adjust the HUD DOWN isn't working. The UP button works because if I press it I can see the little green lines apear on the edges of the rectangle display letting me know that it's being adjusted.

I'm not sure how it got up so far, because I've only adjusted the display a few times to put it in the right spot for driving, but it's stuck up there. That's the best way I could think to describe it, but does anyone know how I can fix the down button or why it's not working?

I'd appreciate any help!

Sounds like the spring holding the ange of the mirror to the adjusting arm went, or somehow slipped off so you will have to disassemble the case to reser the mirror and spring. Sorry no pics (I have a 98, different HUD)

Hmm, I figured it was something like that. But when I press the 'Down' button, if feels exactly the same as when I press 'Up'.. It doesn't feel like I'm not actually pressing a button, it feels normal.

That's why I thought it might be a different problem. But you're pretty sure it's the spring?

After reading your post again it sounds like your saying the problem is in the dashboard part of the HUD and not in the button used to adjust it. If anyone could help me find a tutorial or pictures on how to fix this I would appreciate it.

Wow, thanks for the guides..

Looks like a pain in the ass to fix, but it will be a nice little project I guess.

I did this on mine like 4 months it is hard as s@$(;$ but I found the easiest way is to take both pillars off then just tug on that piece that it's is in until all clips unlock and take the hub out. I will post a little more specific post of how to do it easier cause some of the instructions seems like u hav to take the whole dash apart when it really is only like 7 parts. This afternoon I'll post something up to help u out man.

Basically do what this post says,
HUD - Heads Up Display for Pontiac Grand Prix 2004 Repair Instructions (from above post)
but me instead of drilling another hole in the plastic I just got a small washer and superglued it to the little spring, this prevents it from ever happening again, because you will have metal that the spring will be attached to and not plastic, because i am pretty sure that if you drill a hole through the plastic in little time it will happen again. It sounds harder than it is.

Apart from using superglue on the spring, did you say there was a way to get to the HUD without taking apart the whole dash?

Alright, I appreciate the help.

How long do you think it'll take to fix this? For someone that's never done anything like this before.

Man to tell you the truth I had never done this in my life before and I was scared to break or not be able to put it back together it takes about 1 hour man if you do it at the speed I did I took my time and it takes about 30 to 45 min to put it back together so I would allow my self to be safe about 2 hours but again I did it really slow cause I did not want to break anything.

Lol alright. Thanks for all the information. I'll try to get this done within the next week or two. I'll let you know how it turns out!

This happened with mine not 5 days ago, so glad I stumbled upon this site! I got laid off yesterday, so it looks like I'll have plenty of time to fix it! Thanks for posting the instructions, much appreciated.
