HUD brightness

So I have a 98 Daytona GP. The HUD works. But during the day it is hard to see, even on full brightness. At night it is just fine. I have no problems with it dimming by itself or shutting off. It's just the brightness during the day. I know of the solder fix. I have it apart right now and it looks fine. So how bright is it supposed to be during the day?

Has the windshield been replaced?
Not that I know of. It was a one owner that was always maintained by the local dealer. Then my last two friends have had it and they would know better.

I just took it apart and cleaned the crap out of it. I just want to get some ideas before I put it back together. I am so nervous when I pry on these 19 year old plastic pieces. So I would like it done in one shot.

Re solder it. It seems like it might be a little brighter. But during a sunny day while on lite color road, it is a litte faint. But it is livable for the most part. So I'm happy with it.

Sent from my pager using morse code.

The HUD isn't always visible if the sun is bright in the right angle on the window. It's a cool system but not quite perfect. Likely what you have now that you reflowed the solder is about as good as it's going to be.

Thanks for the conformation of how the HUD is suppose to act. It does work for 90% of the pavement I am on. The light concret on a sunny day is when it fades out some. But I can live with that. Thanks for the help guys.

I have a 01 grand prix gtp. My HUD is not lighting up. I can tell that it will move up and down if I adjust it, so that part works, it just won't light up. It is frustrating because my radio digital display quit working so I cannot tell what station I am on. Any Ideas? Is there a fuse or is that not an option since I can control that position of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

You need to pull out the hud and reflow the solder on the Photo Cell. I had the exact same problem. Look for instructions in the How to section of the forum.

In the process of pulling out the HUD, I noticed the spring came off of the mirror. Where exactly does it go and how does it go on? The plastic bit broke off too. I figured I would try to JB weld it or something.

Any update on the fix? I drilled a new hole in the HUD I had and it worked great. Followed the instructions from the same site provided by SaukRapids. I was told from the person I bought it from that it didn't work because the windshield had been replaced. I noticed there was a tiny little "HUD" in the corner, so I knew it was the right windshield. I looked down into the unit and low and behold it was working just not projecting onto the windshield. :D
