Hubs are loose

The shop I took my car to told me my hubs are loose on the front and that you can't repack the bearings on them and they are trying to tell me its $700 for two new hubs. I'm probably going to end up just buying my own parts, but do I just order new wheel bearings and have them put in, or or does anyone have links to hub assemblies if I need them?

Also, does anyone know the part numbers for the transmission and engine mounts from acdelco?
 


No, they cannot be repacked. The hub assembly has to be replaced. Go to rockauto.com and order up Timken's for about $100 each.
 
is this a joke ????? you cannot repack the bearings on are cars. especially for 700 dollars the bearing assembly are maybe $100 a piece id suggest calling the better business bureau on that shop.

Why they did nothing wrong. Good bearings cost us 200ish a piece then there is labor and mark up. Buy your own parts and do it your self.
 
Im not up on the 06 grand prixs so Im not sure if there will be any differences between this 01 and your 06...good luck
 


Do it yourself and save LOADS of money. It's not that hard, and make sure you get a timken it's made in the usa and comes with a good warranty. Also price match it with advance to save more money.

The thing better come with a good damn warrenty, like I just said, my timken went bad in 2 days. still 3 more weeks of squeaky driving till I can pass over again and replace it.

nevermind didnt see they said they cant repack them i thought they said they could for 700 my bad lol whoops my newborn keeps me up all hrs need sleep:th_confused:
 


Just so everyone is clear, what are they typical signs of a bad hub?

I have been getting some roaring at like 40-45 mph on decel only. Neutral or turning the wheel doesnt seem to help reduce the noise.

My car has 146k on it, and I am pretty sure it has OEM hubs.
 
roaring yes. u jack the car up and grab the top and bottom of the tire and move with force. if it has play, bad hub. Mine were bad at 90k miles. I have replaced them about 2-3 times in the front due to zzp claiming they were selling me Timkens when really they were a cheap china offbrand. My timkens were about $200 total. No issues yet. They aren't hard at all to put on.

"swive test" drive to the speed you get the roaring sound, then turn the wheel to the right and left slighty and see if the sound goes away.

Turn wheel to right = no sound = bad RIGHT hub
Turn wheel to left = no sound = bad LEFT hub
