hub assembly replacement question 04 gtp.

Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my wheel bearing which was diagnosed via this site, Thank you! I'm not to experienced and am still learning how to fix things, but I'm trying to get my hub assembly off and the axle doesn't seem to retract at all it won't budge what so ever. I removed everything caliber, rotor, three bolts in back, tried beating assembly with hammer, and tried beating in the axle with rubber mallet. Also tried using a gear puller, again with no luck. Is there something I'm not doing right? possibly something I missed (such as a cotter key, which I read on eHow.com)? Could there be something wrong with my cv joint?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

put the bolts back in the bearing/hub, then with the bolt for the axle left flush with the threads of the axle, hit it with a hammer, nice and square, use a block of wood if you want to as well. mine took 3 good shots to get it out. rubber mallot's not gonna get it done, a 5 lbs baby sledge works nice.

When I did mine i had to give it a few good whacks with a sledge hammer to break the axle loose from the wheel bearing. I used a scrap peice of tubing across the studs to protect the axle threads
