How wide can i go?

So i have a 2000 GTP, and its time for new tires. I want to go wider than the stock 225/60-16, so how wide can i go? I was told two different sizes as the widest i could go 245/45-16 and 255/50-16. What do you recommend, remember i want the widest i can fit without crazy rubbing.
 


245/50 is the size youre looking for. that's a BIG tire on the 6.5" rim we have.

ive had these and they work, but honestly its kind of a waste of money for you. the traction situation doesnt get much better, if at all, and they may potentially roll the bead on a hard cornor because of their width on that small of a rim. youre best off getting an aftermarket rim and putting a bigger tire on that.

no matter what you go with they shouldnt rub.
