Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

how to write ups and comments threads

I've noticed that when a how-to gets posted, typically a comments thread gets posted along with it... if that's going to be common practice, why arent the how-to threads then locked? if they dont get locked, we're ending up with conversations relating to the write up in two different threads, and it gets kinda confusing ?

Well Toasty here is the story.......

Once a HOW TO is posted I make it a sticky (to remind me that its not been added to the HOW TO SECTION outside the forum.)

Once its added to the HOW TO SECTION outside the forum I edit the title and add [*] to the end, then delete the actual How To, but leave the comments.

This way there is a place to put comments on each How To that is posted. The How To and pictures are held on this site, so there is no issue with broken links. There is also a link in the How To that links back to the forum to post your comments. Another added benny is that the How To's are searchable in the forum since there is a comments post linked to the How To.

Hope that explains it. There should not be any writeup threads with a seperate thread for comments, but there may be 2 or 3 different writeups on the same issue (just different ways to do it, like the headlight fix)

i think i get it, but i've got a good example for ya.. -- the writeup that was done to show how to fill in the cubby spot on a stereo mount (the one you stickyed) has 2 posts. one sticky under the 'how to' section (assuming this one should be the how-to post(s) only, but it has comment posts in it, and extra junk in it, and there is another thread in the audio section, with the write up and MORE comments over there. so if i'm understanding you correctly, you'll be moving the stickyed post to the how-to section off forum and removing excess posts?

OH.......Now I know what your are talking about......yea thats a good point, I didnt think of those......Those were posts that I copied from other threads that were not in the How To section. In the future I will just move them instead of copying them....that should fix that problem....I will try and get that cleaned up tonight, I think there was only a couple that I did that with.

see you killed the non how-to thread on this. I'm guessing that you'll end up moving the how-to part of the thread that is left, and leave the comments there, so the how-to stays clean?

I moved the thread (actually merged the threads) so that the post is now only in the how to section. Once I get the page made for the radio writeup done, I will delete the write-up and leave a link to the page, like all the other How To's with the [*] in the title.

make sense?
