How to Properly Paint/Refinish your Rims



nice job, mine would be easier.
I go to by brothers garage(non-commercial) and he will powder coat, almost any color.
 


OK so i found out that powdercoating is not easier, i sandblasted two of the rims - and havnt powdercoated them yet, and i could have had them painted and on in the same time.
Powdercoating is easy - prep is hard.
 
good **** bro. i wanna do that to mine. im gonna look at my uncles rims to see which i like better but either way i wanna do it to mine soon. and i access to the sandblaster at work. but i wont need to do that i fi just pollydip them right? still deciding though.

your uncles rims are way better there Pregen's if you dont get them im gonna try to and use them as my winter wheels or paint them white and use these as my winter rims lol
and its plasti-dip they make it in different colors including white they sell it at home depot but only in black i think
you would have to order colors off line i may be wrong not sure but we defiantly need to steel them rims off your uncles car that hes never gonna fix lol
 


I just plasti-dipped my rims and it looked awesome.... for a couple days. Its easy prep, just clean the rims nicely but they are hard to wash I found. And dont go down gravel roads with them, they get dented or pitted easy, they dont break and peel they just end up looking bad. If you live in a city and see no gravel road at all ever, then I would do it again.
 
I had something go through my sidewall and cause a small leak. I took my car in, got a new tire, and now the one rim looks horrible. In the bolt holes a lot of the paint is gone and also where the weight went. So now I have to do some touch up. But none of has peeled and I havent found a good way of washing them so if anyone knows please tell.
 
washing your rims? use some type of rim cleaner to start. if that doesn't work then try wax and grease remover and if it still doesn't come clean use lacquer thinner and a scuff pad.

How much do you guys pay for having a tire mounted and balanced?

I went to a shop that has a machine setup for powdercoating, it was $25 for install and $25 for balancing, Thats $50 per tire!
But is was great work, no scratches, took time to mount properly and to tighten the nuts properly.
Just thought it was a lot.
 


i dont pay anything i do it myself. im not sure how much the shop i work in charges to do it. where did they put the weights? i put mine on the inside of the rims, $50 per tire is alot
 
they stuckum to 2 different places on the inner part of the rim, on one rim they are inline with the caliper.
the other near the outer rim - only needed 100 grams
 
The one rim is still going to be off, but you might not notice it.

You cant have weights in 2 different spots on 1 side of the rim, it may zero out on the machine, but its still off because it called for weights twice. Its what we call chased weights. I see it all the time on cars that come into our shop, but its whatever.

You're telling the truth because I work at Tirebarn in ILL I see weights on the inside that are across from each other. I get mad when people don't take the old weights off of the rim when I'm balancing. that's why I have my own bay to work in.
