How to Make your Own Clear Corners

I did this write up simply because i was in need of a new corners light so figured i would have nothing to lose if i messed anything up, but DO THIS MOD AT YOUR OWN RISK I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS YOUR CORNERS LIGHTS UP. Ok now that i got that out of the way lets begin.

1. Remove your corner light you can do this by removing the screw, and then there are 2 bulbs that you need to take out.

2.Set your Oven at 300-305 degrees and let it Pre-heat if needed

3.Set your corner light on some kind of pan

4.Place it in the oven ONLY LET SIT IN OVEN OF 3 MINS MAX

5.Remove from oven, then wait about 1 min and slowly start prying the lens off.

6. Once you get the lens off the Amber piece will just come right off

7.Put the lens back on but be sure to put some sealant on them so they will not leak.

8.Put back on car and enjoy the beauty of them

lol i may give it a shot since i have this extra prototype one i am going to be doing a little more investigating and see what else i can do
 
yea I am def bias to the clear corners that are smooth and don't have the clouded ridgy look. That is basically why I haven't bought a set yet.
 
yea i don't blame you i have some clear corners with the smooth reflectors on my cavalier and i thought that they looked way better, i have the just of what would need to be done tho...
first get the amber piece out by following directions above then on the rough side sand down with $%^& grit sandpaper then start working down to $^&$ grit sand paper then finish with a wet sand using #$%# sand paper, now if only i could find out which grits would be best to work it for this

Since you have it apart you should clean the lenses.
Try Meguiars "Plastx" you might find it at Walmart or any parts place, it works wonders.
You might bake the headlights next and get the cluodiness out of them.

speaking of keeping the lenses clean... does that x-pel plastic layover stuff work? it's quite expensive but if it keeps from ever having to clean the headlights then it is worth it...

i just want some feedback from anyone that has experience with it

i will be sure to pick some Plastix up and give it a try, a lot of the fog on my headlights is on the outside so i am not sure if baking it will work

I have heard it works but it is expensive like you said. I have not used it myself.
The biggest problem I think with the stock headlight is that they leak, the condensation gathers on the inside if the lenses and over time they look like they do.
Baking the headlights to separate the lens from the housing seems to be the best solution without destroying the lights in the process.
I just bought different lights but some people have had theirs turn out like new after baking them and cleaning them really well, some even wet sand the lenses.
I guess the real trick is to get them to seal so they do not gather condensation on the inside again.
That's about all I know about it.
 
being the dumbass i am, i went to do this today and wasn't really carefull so i broke the plastic but it gave me a excuse to order clear corners lol

yea i have already wet sanded the outside of my lenses the next step for me is to bake and clean up then insides i want to see just how much i can make these babies shine..lol but i'm sure some good wax and polish will help out a lot also
 
yea i waxed and polished my lenses but i think the polish i was using was old or something cuz it just didn't look too great...
 


i do not have any night pics just yet i will be sure to take some later once it gets dark out and post them for you guys to see

So how did they turn out?
 
for me they turned out pretty well i will be sure to take some pics tom. when the sun comes back up, also still working on my other project which is clear corners with a smooth amber piece which is giving me some problems but i feel like i can do it
