How to Install Cup holders (97-03 GP)

Hello everyone

Recently the weather has been getting better and im starting to do some simple fixes on my car (1999 GrandPrix GTP Coupe), and one that I want to tackle next is the cup holders.

Last year while i was installing my stereo and elbowed the cupholders, breaking them. But i bought an assembly from FB and want to install them. It includes the cup holder assembly and the 2 spring coil wire things.

Anybody know how to install them without removing the entire center console and where those 2 metal spring coil wire things go? Thank you

Example of what i mean (Assembly and spring coil wire things)

You don't have to take the whole console out.

Turn the key to on and put the shifter to 3rd.

Open the console door and take out the storage bin.

Start to work the top trim of the console from the storage bin area. Then down the sides of the shifter toward the front of the car until it releases.

Careful with the seat warmer switch. And unplug that. Also the light for the gear selector needs to be unplugged.

You should then be able to take it out and flip it over to replace the cup holder. The old springs are probably laying down there lol.

The springs are used to keep tension on the cup holder I don't remember how they install but I'm sure it will make sense once your there.

Reverse the order to put it back together and boom your big gulp ready once again

All that for some damn cupholders. Such a ****ty design. Shoot i was really hoping i could just squeeze the new ones into place. (since i literally ripped the old broken ones out). Bu thanks man appreciate
it!

It really doesn't take to long. 30 to 45 mins being overly careful. 50 mins if you pound a beer mid way

Classic GM. What should be a great design that both makes the car look better and function better for the passengers does neither because of inadequate engineering. A less woeful version of the Vega engine.
