How to clean your throttle body.

Interestingly, I just installed my open cone and figured to clean the TB while I was at it and to my amazement when I removed the screen for a peek at it, it was shiny clean! Now imagine my bewilderment! Is the gunked up TB only happening to those with the cones? Or is it possible the previous owner replaced it? Could it be shiny new like after 86k miles?

probly wouldnt be shiny new maybe the previous owner had cleaned it. but its not a result of having an open cone because mine was gunked up before I even had one

im sure if you were to flip open the butterfly and rub your finger on the back side of it, and look past it, it will be dirty. surprisingly dirty.

Considering now It's only a clamp between me and another peek, I will take a look, but I'm sure I did that too. Lol, but between the beers and the cone install I honestly can't remember. I'll take a pic... :).

I'll be doing my LIM in a week or so, so if it is gunked I will have a 2nd opportunity then to clean it.
 
mine was nice and clean on the outside too, flip it open, spray some carb cleaner in there. remove the maf if its in the tb, never spray anything on a maf but maf cleaner. ( or you'll kill the maf) then get your old tooth brush and scrub around, it will come out black as night.

i respectfully disagree with the maf cleaner. i have used electrical contact cleaner multiple times for the MAF. no big deal though.
 


electrical contact cleaner is NOT carb and choke cleaner. better to be safe than sorry, a new maf aint cheep. thats why they sell maf cleaner.
 
Just figured I'd let ya know you were right. It was black as hell in there on the other side, EGR no doubt... well, it's cleaned, ported and polished as best I could do and better than new now ;) Once Overkill's PCM arrives I'm gonna disconnect the EGR control wiring and leave that valve closed, lol... keep things clean :rolleyes:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you should have ported your tb because you need to tune for that

We cleaned it and we can see a differ in the throttle body yes very clean but we were not able to clean the inside where we took of the throttle body from. we ran out of TB cleaner so we just did as much as we could and put it back. We clean the Maf and its good and we reposition the Open cone filter intake. My bro said he could feel a differ, Later on in a few weeks we will clean it more thoroughly and ill take pics. Either way a good differ on the car though. Thanks for the right up it helped the TB was full of CRAP.
