How to Change Plugs

Well I think I spoke too soon. Yesterday when I was one my way home from work. I was flooring it to speed up and it started to hiccup and then it started accelerating. I thought it was a fluke cause it did it twice then didnt do it again. Today this morning it has done it again, like when I went to WOT at times it didnt want to go. I think I will have to change these plugs back out when I paid again and will go ahead with the delco iridium

Did you get them gapped correctly? How does it hiccup, does it do it all the time when you get to WOT, or getting up to WOT also.

It did it a few times today only when going WOT. If I pressed the gas down evenly it did not do it . And it did not do it every single time that I punched the gas. I didnt check the gap on the plugs I figured they were already set to the proper gap. Weird I changed them last week and it only did this yesterday. Before then I drove at least 100 miles without any issue. I did also at that time use a gas treatment. Did I knock something loose up in the gas tank that might be at times making an injector not spray as good as it should for the times it does it?

I for some reason not sure it is the plugs, cause I would figure it would have done it right off the bat, or at least in the 100 miles that I was driving it after I changed them.

Could it also be a tranny issue? I just got this car with the low miles for being so old. I dont know if they ever changed the filter and tranny fluid as well.

Ill have to check it again when I go home to see if it does it again.

The feeling is like hitting the gas and the car didnt go, it kind of buckled back and forth. not like it was going to die at all though. After a few seconds it would straighten out. no check engine light either

check your spark plug wires. whens the last time they were changed? and yes it can intermittently misfire and it doesnt have a good connection with wire on plug. may not necessarily kick on the light either..just an idea. check the wires out. maybe replace.

gonna check it out a little later after it cools off. make sure I got the motor mounts nice and tight as well to be sure it isnt the engine moving around in there. I didnt change the plug wires and no idea when they were if ever changed they look brand new. hopefully ill be able to pin it down.

Like was said earlier, guess it could depend on the age of your plug wires. After they've been on a while, they can tend to become brittle in the core....bending them and twisting them can cause bad connections inside the plug wires that may only come up intermittently, or under WOT conditions.

Well I found the issue. Something dumb of course. After work I thought let me check the plug wires in case they are loose or one got burned before I drove it home and it got hot and I would have to wait. Well one of the boots on the back plugs was loose and I pushed and heard it click. I was laughing and figured out how that happened. After I did the plugs, I had a hard time getting them back in the loom to route them and I pulled on the wire too much and pulled it almost off, and when driving it came all the way off bu the boot was holding it on the plug until I hit WOT.

I had no troubles coming home

DOH

Thanks for the help guys. This has to be the best vehicle forum I have ever joined.

I've seen that a few times (I had one of mine pop out of the loom and touch the exhaust that was fun too) nice easy fix, and a tip for everyone else to watch for
