Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

How solid is the 3.1L

Well I'm not sure if this helps, but I drove a 91 GP SE 3.1L for like 8 years with no engine problems whatsoever. It didn't even leak a drop of oil during that whole time, all I ever did, was regular maintenance (oil changes and tune up). The only things that failed where the alternator, but the new SE has a bigger one and the water pump, that one I think it's still pretty much the same on the 3100.

Oh it once threw the harmonic balancer away along with the crank pulley but amazingly the belt stayed in place and I could drive it slowly home. LoL!

I have had my SE for 2 or 3 months and there is NO oil spots on my garage floor. And I have checked the oil level at 3K and the level is still at full, and i am ready for an oil change also! All in all I am happy with it, other than the slight knock form the piston slap it has.

Yeah, I guess I should clarify, too. My 3.1 is a '93 model.

i have a 01 se an its was making the whistling noise too... check the vacuum hose if it is loose it will let out a whistle that gets louder as you accelerate

Both my '90 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport wagon and my '90 Pontiac Grand Prix LE coupe have the 3.1 Multi-Port, and I just plain love these engines. My Grand Prix gets 34 MPG on the highway when I average 50MPH. My wagon I'm planning on doing a 3.4 Quad cam top-end swap to increase power and fuel economy over the last engine it had(doesn't run anymore) so it's now a project in the making. But although I don't really like the SFI compared to MPFI, it's a better choice when it comes to a daily driver
