• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

How nervous should my wallet be?

A few simple, and relatively cost efficient mods you can run are a 3.4" pulley, headers, CAI/FWI, exhaust, and supporting mods.

I'd just shoot for a good 3.4" setup and tune. That's what I'm running right now but I want a little more out of my car.

It's a GT. So good stuff except the 3.4.
BUT after the paintjob done right you're looking at almost the cost of a GTP, so I'd just buy a gtp, maybe try and get like 500 out of that thing.

I wouldn't say anything too soon, I don't believe Pontiac is officially out of business yet although it looks like it will happen. Things could change, let's hope they do!

As much as I love this car a newer one would do better justice. But Pontiac going out of business should take some serious consideration...who knows how it will be to get parts....

Pontiac is DEAD forsure period. 2nd there are a tons and tons of these cars built from 1997 to 2003 same with the newer bodys style. Parts shortage? yeah right! Even aftermarket parts are alright Ive used certafit and copart fenders and hoods. Since this is my 3rd GP ive hit my share of deer and my sisters on here 2nd GP and every single car each of us have owned has been in an parking lot fender bender or blasted a deer. Trust me parts are everywhere. Bumpers are harder to find that fit good but so far Ive always used GM bumpers.

If you save up for a GTP, then paint will be a secondary desire. You thought the GT had a little something when you hit the pedal, the GTP will impress you more. Add a few mods and the bug will be deeper into you than any girlfriend.

He was talking about maybe getting a GTP, I was referring to that.

400 horses?

u need a gtp and ditch the s/c for turbo and spend lots of $$ and be prepared for **** to break often.

the gp u have now would make a great winter/dd car, id just keep it until it rusts in half. If u have ur heart set on a gp look for a 99-02 imo those are the best years.

a radar detector isnt too expensive. i got a used one off my friend for $100 and it works exactly how i want it. it was the first thing i bought for my car and i still use it.

2006 Grand Prix GXP is one of the most solid, powerful, and classy cars I have ever driven. Only option I would add would be bluetooth and that will be happening soon.

I'm looking to get the rust taken care of as best as I can, I'd also like to get it painted a metallic blue that I've seen on the board somewhere.

Hmmm...Metallic?

Blue? Nah...just black...

Or is it :th_thumbsup-wink:

Blue-Black Metallic...best...color...EVAH!! :D

Something tells me once I'm broke into a GTP I'll want one. :th_biggrin2:

That is pretty much the ticket there Killer ;) Way more worth it though than that car...I'd use it as a DD for sure...maybe just tint the windows and get a tune up...and spray some rust proof paint over the insides of the door sills and stuff...might save it for a little longer than excepted...

You can't use "CLASSY" and "GRAND PRIX" in the same sentence...against the law.

yeah, you forgot to mention no aftermarket at all...

No crap...intake and exhaust? Oh wait...you forgot to mention the $7,000 turbo kit that is like a one off...They are nice cars, sure...but nothing I'd jump for...I'd buy 20 98-03 W-Body's before buying that thing...

damnnnn and i was upset about surface rust by my rear driverside strut tower in the trunk.....get that shyt before it spreads rust is like herpes once its one place you'll find it in others places you didnt know you had it....

hey i got the same problem with the strut towers in the trunk. did u manage to fix it yet? if so, how?

It's always good to have a sacrificial anode to drive in the winter in salted states. Drive your mom's as long as you can since it's already rotting. You've gotten some good advise here, already.

Take a look at the Powering Your 3800 sticky under I think General Tech, this post is amazing. literally step by step on preparing your car for mods and what to do in order it's what Im gona use as soon as I start getting the cash flow back in sync and start moding my GTP

Im sooooooo glad mine wasnt/isnt that bad!!

its close to being fixed tho, trust me, rocker replacement isnt 'fun', and rust repair/repainting isnt cheap.. but my god is it rewarding to do it yourself!

you know what I think your best bet is, to sell that car and try and get what you can and buy a cheap GTP, if you think that roars wait till you hear the GTP whine! that car looks like it's rusted EVERYWHERE and god know's what underneath

DON'T buy a CHEAP GTP. If you can get a GTP for the money you get from that thing, it'll only be a consistent problem child. I have a 98 which we purchased for $3k wholesale, yeah, wholesale, and it's been a persistent PITA since I've owned it. I love it but I hate it.
