How much coolant does our car need?

Hey i have not been online for a while now mostly because my bro and i had a shot water pump and we just replaced ours ourselves, the belt got snapped right off while on the freeway and we could not turn but good thing the road curved ahead. Apparently no one said that we need the pump changed. This is the first time we have changed something major like that, its was also a ***** to do. We did a pretty good job and so we pulled the radiator hose to drain out all the coolant the next day. We could not reach the one right next to the fan under the battery so instead we pulled out the one that was right under the ignition coils. It drained out and we got a new 180* T-stat from autozone, the Duralast one to replace the old one. Is the 180 T-Stat good, and better than the stock one we had?

Also to get to my question each day we checked the coolant reservoir and radiator 2-3 times and the it always got almost empty. so we kept filling it up and up and now we are out of coolant and the thing is back to were it was before. So how much coolant does our car need, the guys in autozone said the car needs a lot and we should get two of the bottles. we only had enough money for one and used it all up too, also we noticed the car temp get higher al the time untill we used all the coolant and the car was almost at normal temps on the gauge. So do we need another bottle of coolant?

The Coolant we used was this Prestone 50/50 Prediluted Anit-Freeze/Coolant that is universal for all cars, we did not want to use dex cool since people say that dex cool is not that good and to just use the green stuff which the prestone coolant was green. Plus isn't that if you flush/drain out the coolant on say a GM car you can pretty much use Ford coolant in the car or even visa versa? Either way we used this coolant and yes we took the 50/50 since we did not want to mix with water since some people say you need to use specific water and water ever so we just stick with the 50 50. So do we need another bottle of the coolant the same one or what?

BTW car 07 GP Base

EDIT: Forgot to mention the bottle we used said on it was a 1 Gal / 3.78L

10-12 quarts or litres or something

prestone all makes is dexcool dyed yellow.

Could have bought concentrate for a dollar more and made twice amount of coolant.

i usually just dump a gallon of straight coolant in and just top it off with water, done.

Ya i wanted to do that but there was a lot of confusion of what water to use, so we just stuck with the 50 50. i do have some problems right now with the coolant so i made a thread and if you guys can help too thanks. also thanks for the answers and ill be buying another 50 50 gal of coolant asap. Thanks again

your supposed to used distilled water. but ive never used anything but hose water my whole life.

Ya thats what people say but then others say they use drinking water or something, then someone says having water or just water in the car will cause corrosion.

defiantly don't run straight any kind of water. coolant raises the boiling temp of the water. and keeps the inside of your engine from rusting.
