How many miles left with low fuel light?

Just came on. Trip computer says ive used 14.6 gallons. Should have at least 40 miles left right? Needle is in middle of orange area on fuel guage
 


That light is different for everybody. Depending on where and what type of fuel, atmospheric conditions, driving style, etc. It's winter time in most places in the country, I never go with less than 1/2 to 3/4 a tank.
 
You have a 17 gallon tank, you are almost empty.

Plus, the fuel cools the fuel pump, so if you always run the tank down, you are always putting extra stress on the pump.
 
Put a 5gal. Gas can in the trunk and find out... Run it till dry so you KNOW how many miles you've got when the light goes on : )
 


your supposed to have 100 miles worth of gas left when the light comes on. mine has 4 gallons left. iv done VVVV this before.

easy way to know how much is left its to fill up when the light comes on, note how many gallons you just pumped in. like said before, yo have a 17 gal tank.
 
Hahaha, filling up and subtracting from the tank capacity won't tell you when the pump will suck dry, lol... Inquiring minds like to know... Will you stall with a 1/2 gal, 3/4 gal or how much left in tank? Plus you're starting with inaccurate data the other way, i.e., have you actually filled 17 gals into the tank?

Do it right... Run out of gas and remove all the mystery!

lol That's some iffy advice. I've gone down to being able to put in 15.2 gallons in my GP. 2.3 gallons being left according to the posted 17.5 gallon capacity. That was with the gauge slightly above the E line. (middle to low area yellow) I suppose hitting right on e would be about 1.9-2 gallons left. Useable gallons, I don't know. I would think you can use all but the last quart.
 
Different yet similar.

The Bonneville just shows range as LOW MI when you get below 40. Usually about 2 gallons left when I fill up just as it hits LOW MI.

I've gotten 17.9 gallons in the tank, however it has an 18.5 gallon versus the GP's 17.
