How great is the new 2012 Impala LTZ?

4.7 stang huh?

4.7 V8 320 horsepower STS huh?

I'm out of the loop, apparently.

Regardless of that it has a Northstar. Have you ever heard of them? Reliablily? hah. Tell that to the head gaskets.

I hated riding in my buddy's WS6...personal preference.

Like my buddy who is 6'7" and fits in my Cobalt just fine and can't complain...yet gripes about not fitting well in his brother's WS6...and the owner of that car is 6'9"...

the lulz.

Econobox victory.

Ya i meant to say 4.6L a little error, So what your saying is that the Northstar engine is not reliable?

Any one else who has an opionion on the Cadallac STS V8?

Either the northstar will run for a stupid amount of time or it will die quickly. And they usually like to die and need alot of repairs.

Junkyards dont even wanna sell used motors because of the fail rate.

If you bought one your taking a big gamble.

I'd find a bigger buick with the 3.8 before I went cadillac.

hit or miss with the northstar. My family has one thats got 215,000 or so with just maintenance. The STS V8 will either be a tank, or a nightmare.

Thanks for the opinions, i read some forums that said the northstar is better in some STS and some have it worse. Ill keep the car in mind but would be one of my last cars to get. Right now i can only think of two cars that i can for surely count on getting/looking for is the 04+ Grand prix GTP/GT, or the G8 GT (If i find one for cheap which will be difficult). And if i learn how to drive shift the first car to look for will be a 08+ Cobalt SS T/C.

For now ill just leave at that this whole thread and i come back to the same car i started with and thats the 3800

And drilling the block to fit the bellhousing?

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Seriously...what you need to do OP is get a budget. List what features you want in a car...then search. Because you're seriously all over the board.

My Mustang has 15 less hp than that STS, is faster, and I have a 6 speed... gets better gas mileage too. Unless you find an amazing deal, NADA retail on an '06 is around $15k... Why?

But is the mustang a 4 door?

Ok, i have looked at many cars that i would like for my first car but i just come down to one car and that is a GTP ( Perferablly a 04+ GTP, Comp, or GT S/C ). But the only thing stoping me from buying it is the problem of the Transmission which you guys have mentioned is weak. So answer me this: If i want to mod it what can i add or how much can i add to the GTP that will be the safest amount of speed and HP gain that the Trany can handle? And if i do need a trany rebuild later on i want to know how much will it cost me, and how much will i need to save? I keep thinking it will cost me thousands to fix which i dont want, and will i be fixing it or just getting a newer one that can handle the power gain? if i gave a Example of how much i would like to gain on the GTP it would be like say enough power so it can do high 13s or lower with the trans still able to handle the power even after 100k.

I know i wont be making huge mods once i get it i will just be doing the usual CAI (will make my own), pulley ( i think people said that it is very cheap to do the pulley), exhuast, etc. So can it be done and still be a DD car. I do know for the first few years it will be used to go to and from College and work and to run some chors. And when i get the chance go for a ride once in a long while, maybe find some cars to race on the street.

I know i could find maybe some stuff on the sight that could answer some of my ?s but i dont get much time on the computer anymore so i thought asking would be easier and faster. Thanks in advance for the help

The trans would be good until about 300 crank horse.

The transmission were similar enough that getting a newer one would not help much at all. A 97 GTP trans will be as strong as an 08 trans given the same condition.

A solid trans would be around 3 grand.
