How does the GTP stack up to cars nowadays?

Wow you guys all give tons of awesome info, and again thanks for all your guys opinions. This is great to know and now i just want to buy a comp G even more.

Oh do the Chevy impala have the same weak tranny as the GTP?
 


That sucks, if i were to get the GTP how much modding would i be able to do so that the stock tranny could still handle the power gain?

Porting heads is quite the part you keep leaving out...even in that thread.

These heads are awful from the factory and opening them up does wonders on the flow side...like 15-20% increase?

Yeah...expect a "common" 3.4, header/rocker car with a solid tune to crack off high 13's...maybe mid 13's with a good driver.

I thought the 4T65 HD trans was nearly indestructible, yikes that kinda worries me. I use to work for a radiator shop so I know a fair bit about trans coolers and such. The biggest drawback to the Radiator based coolers is the fact that they rely on engine coolant to control the heat of the trans. Which means that the trans is forced to heat up when the thermostat is closed, in a cooling system, as well as the fact that it heats the cooling system up adding extra heat to the engine. Transmission coolers are actually fairly cheap if you can find a person in the business, the markup on them from the manufacturer to the end user is actually around 300%. Our $149 cooler was only $48 bucks my cost. I no longer work their so I can't supply them to everyone, but I am sure for personal use, I can still get a good deal on one for myself.

Side note the best thing a person can do for their trans, is take the time to pull the dipstick and smell it regularly. It will often start to smell burnt long before it turns into a dark bad colour. I say when you check your oil, or at least once a month, give your dipstick a good sniff. If it smells foul, its time to change the oil and get it clean. (yes that was suppose to be a bit dirty for you off colour people)
 


The 3.8L has 1 advantage over most other enigines and its called low end torque. No lie, I kept up with a butt hurt Houstonian driving a turbo 911. I am pretty sure he sucked as a driver because there is no way in hell I should have kept on him. I would say the GTP will stack up against many new cars, of course depending on what you plan to do with it.
 
I work at a kia dealer, Kia optima turbos may have power but they are not as practical as a gp because the interior is small and cramped feeling. Plus the exteriors still look cheap.
 
Ya a neighbor of mine has one that she rented for a day and she said it feels cramped. Also i found out that there is a person who parks two cars next to her with a badass looking G8 GT. Now that will own loads of cars out their, if only i had the money to get one
