How do I remove the spark pugs? 04 GT

I know its a noob question...
I figured you'd just pull the wires out then get in with the right size socket...

theres a spring loaded round pipe around the end of the plug, i tried pushing that in and pulling the wire out, it was too hard so i figure i was doing it wrong.

anyone?

you have to pull the wire off. pull the metal pipe and spring off with the wire if you can. its for heat shielding or something and over the boot. id put it on the new wires if you got some. then get the right socket and ratchet and remove the plugs. i know on the 97-03 you have to rock the engine fwd to get to the back ones. it made it so much easier. i just did plugs and wires on mine. let me know if you need anything else.

I would recommend you use a spark plug socket to remove the plugs. But first you need to remove the wires and heat shields.
The “spring loaded round pipe”:th_laugh-lol3: is the heat shield. They come right off after the plug wire is removed. The trick to removing spark plug wires is to twist them first, them pull them straight off. There is nothing complicated to it. Sometimes the wires really get seized on the plugs so you need to work at them a bit before they twist.

OK.......

So i got it off.... I now realise why it was so hard... can you tell me what is wrong with the following picture?

Can I drive my car on 5 cylinders 6 - 10 miles away to get new plugs?

prolly. why didnt you buy the plugs first? i hope you dont use this method for brakes and oil change.

Well first things first. You broke your spark plug wire, your new plug looks fine. The thing on the end of the old plug is the spark plug boot connector. You need a new set of wires now; I hope you can get to a store tonight.

Don’t feel bad, it happens. Especially on plugs that have been in for many years.

I did buy the plugs, the new one is on the left autolites 606. I think you meant why didnt i buy the wires.

Well i havent gotten around to it yet and i had the plugs so i figured why not. i didnt think the wires would break. and theres no harm in upgrading the plugs and having stock wires, or so i thought anyway.

If you need to drive your car to get the wires you can. Put in the new plug, remove that damaged plug wire completely. Drive to the parts place, and pop the hood. Go buy the set of wires, and replace the missing one in the parking lot.

I shoved the broken piece back into the boot... and oddly enough all 6 cylinders are firing. It must be arking to the piece that broke inside the boot. that's good, i feel safer driving to the parts store tomorrow.

on a side note. that job took me over an hour to complete, there isnt much room in the back, i remember changing plugs on my 92 sl2 saturn... took me about 5 minutes, all 4 plugs were on the top of the motor.

At least I learned from it, appreciate all the help guys
