How could I tell if there has been engine damage?

Well guys after searching for quite a while now i think ive found a car that i want. it seems perfect. its an 02 thats got a basic 3.4 setup and looks really clean. my only concern is the guy has a zzp pcm in it. now i know zzps tunes are notorious for running lean, the guy says it is a bit lean and it throws a code every once in a while.

My question is.. is there a sure fire way to test if the engine is damaged, without pulling it all apart? im mostly woried about a chipped piston, but im sure there are other things that can result from running too lean.

im going to look at it tommorow, all input will be greatly appreciated. TIA

thanks guys. i was thinking compression test, wasnt sure though.

so i just came back from checking the car out, it looks and runs beautiful. the only problem is that its blowing a few codes.
the guy said they popped up after he put in his speed daddys. he checked on his aeroforce and said its throwing a high voltage and a low voltage code, 171 and 131. as well as a 135. what could cause these? and has anyone thrown a code for running too lean on a zzp canned tune?

and has anyone else had codes show up after putting in their speed daddy headers. Mine did and his did. i just dont want to end up in the same boat as i was in with my old gtp

Had a p1133 code on mine after headers. I just deleted deleted the code in the pcm. If its tossing a lean code it more then likely has a vacuum leak
