How can you tell steering rack bad?

All suspension parts are less than a year old including outer tie rods done a week ago. Car was great until a few days ago it seems to wander at highway speeds. Also steering doesnt seem as tight as it should be at highway speeds. Checked everything no play in wheels when jacked up. Wheel bearings good as well. No leaks coming from boots I relasead clamp and looked. Rack is orginal with 220k on it. So probably needs to.ge done regaurdless. Also when I first start car and turn wheel feel a light grinding in the wheel but then it goes away. Finally if it is a rack saw on differnt site on using gxp rack? Seems like it would be the same. I have an 02 gtp. Maybe the magnasteer part is going out?

You have magnasteer? Sorry I've just been tryin to figure out if I do. Does your SPID have the magnasteer rpo code?
 
Im not sure on the code but I have a wire coming.off thr rack which.means magnasteer. Usually gts and gtps 99+ have magnasteer.

Ok. I need to replace my rack but haven't had time to check for the wires but I did find that my. 2002 gtp doesn't have the code but read that it could still have magnasteer
 
Ya its easy to.see the wire..teying to find best deal on rack..ebay has ac delco rebuilt for 285 shipped...autozone has there junk for 200..idk.
