Greetings

I was just wondering about idle fuel consumption. For example, the building i work in lacks air conditioning. During my lunch break i go out to the car and just sit in the parking lot with the ac going. Does anyone know how much fuel the 3.8L consumes idling at appx 700 RPM?

Thats a tough one, I doubt any real numbers could be had, unless you fixed up a fuel tank outside the car with like 1 gallon in it and waited to see how long it took a half gallon to burn off and figure it from there.

I recall reading somewhere that an L36 burns half a gallon of fuel per hour at idle.

Assuming maf reads 5 g/s at idle

you're going to use 1 part fuel per 14.7 parts air.

so 18 000 g/h

then calc fuel component: ~1 224 g/ h

specific gravity is ~.765 g/mL or so.

so 1 605 mL/h

for 1.6 l/h or 0.42 gallon / hour.

If only you guys did math.

so what is the "recommended operation condition" for an engine?
