I honestly don't know if this has been put up yet or not, low on time here so posting this quick. Both of my front brake discs (or w/e there called) are hot. And this was maybe a 3 mile trip if that. Came home looked at them then touched and they were pretty damn hot. The back ones are fine they were just lightly warm which is fine. But the front ones were scorching. Then i took another little 3 miles trip 10 minutes after this and they were cooled off and fine. I don't think they were sticking, since it doesn't seem right that both would be. But any ideas would be nice.
 


Are you talking about your rotors?

If so upgrading to drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads should help keep your brakes cooler.

Since it's only the fronts giving you problems, you may want to see if they are warped.
 
Define hot with a temperature.

For a little example...

Car mass is 3400 lbs, you are ~180.

3580 lbs you need to bring from 40 mph to zero.

All of that energy is turned into heat and stored in your rotors.

Which have a mass of 15 lbs.

So.... of course they're going to be hot.

But as long as they're under 500* F you're more than okay.

Some higher performance pads don't even get into their efficiency range until 300* F or higher.

Also drilled and slotted wont do anything...

You want brake rotor ducting.

Good luck with that though.

With the power steering rack being mounted on the back side of the spindles, GM was "forced" to mount the calipers on the leading edge of the rotors.

Thus making brake ducting rather difficult.

Edit: IIRC removing the dust shields will help with temps.

But at the cost of increased brake dust in the engine bay. As agent____screen was talking about.... this can block the magnet on your CPS and thus cause it to fail earlier.

So your saying it is normal for them to be pretty hot? But why are the fronts so much hotter then the back ones? And this only started recently.

It's normal so nothing to worry about. If you think yours get hot go watch a race and see how much heat gets put out.
 
....this thread is EXACTLY what i was hoping it to be. hahahahaha. brakes iz hawt! your fronts are most of your stopping power..thus them being more hoterish then the rears. as stated before. so now i have two questions. 1: is there any pedal vibrations and or noise? 2: dont lie, how often do you touch your rotors after you drive?
