Horn randomly honks

I've had my '02 Grand Prix GT since 2006. Every few months, while I'm driving, the horn honks randomly for a full second. There's no way of knowing when it will happen, and of course it's when I'm in traffic. Last time, I was behind a big dude on a Harley, who of course thought I was pissed at him. Any idea why this happens, or how to prevent it in the future, before someone road rages on me?

I'm not forsure on this vehicle if there's a relay or not but in my 91 Chevy the horn started honking one night while the truck was off. But the relay was cheap and easy to replace

Sent from my pager using Morse code. ... .. ... ....

I'm actually curious about the fix to this. I pulled the fuse for a coworker who got a call from the police telling him his Grand Am was honking and disturbing neighbors.

I had this happen on my 79 Malibu every time I turned right. It turned out to be the horn "switch" inside the steering wheel. That car didn't have an airbag so it was a couple screws and a steering wheel puller away from being fixed.

I would probably just pull the fuse on a new car, unless you really like your horn. In which case, you could wire it to a push button switch.

I was at hot August nights and this poor guy has his car horn honking ever 2 to 3 seconds I truly felt sorry for him cuz you could see it was not him.

haha my box truck did this. 11 at night hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. By the time I got outside the neighbors were looking at me. I just ripped the wire out from the middle of the steering wheel. Havent put the wire back in yet to see if the aliens went away

I've seen the brake switch hooked up to the horn, so whenever the brake pedal is pressed, the horn blows.

The same guy also once had someone attach like 50 zip ties around the drive shaft on his truck..

WHAT THE **** IS THAT TICKING?!

This is my first time posting... I had experienced random horn honks on my 02 GTP for several years and the dealer did not have a clue. They tried cleaning the contacts on the steering wheel and suggested that the air bag might need replacing. The length of honk was similar to what I heard when pressing the key fob a second time when locking up. I reprogramed the lock confirmation to only have lights flash and the random honks seem to have stopped! Worth a try.

It's an alarm/security thing ..

Check:

1: battery terminals - might be corroded or loose
2: fob relearn
3: aftermarket radios can also cause probs if not installed or if original isn't relocated in car
4: lock cylinder problems due to malfunction or being worn out from heavy key rings

I agree with everything above except the bold part? With the correct harness adapter why would I need to have two radios in my car? I have been running a GMOS-04 with my aftermarket just fine, my 00 bonnie same story different harness, a buddy of mine, same story different harness.

I've seen issues with aftermarket harnesses that cause security problems. If you've had it installed for awhile it may not be an issue but I'm just siting it as a potential problem that may be contributing.
