Hooray! My registration expired!

Well, I found out today that my plates have been expired for 2 months. Apparently they charged me full price for plates in October but they were only good till May. So I've spent 2 months driving around with expired tags! Woot.

I have no job and thus no money to renew my Indiana ones or flip to Florida plates (it's 500 dollars or so to flip to FL too). Looks like I'll be walking around to put in those job applications! On the upside I'm actually not that bummed about it since I've been looking for an excuse to walk everywhere anyway (no sarcasm, dead serious). It's about 90 in strong sun around here most of the time, but I've got plenty of water. I definitely need the exercise and it's great for that. Just figured I'd share my misfortunte/fortune with you. oO

Could be worse...

Two months ago I was late renewing....officer pulled me over for uneccesary noise (music/exhaust) and since my registration was expired by 7 days, they towed my vehicle.

To top it all off, phone battery dead, no money...I walked, 11 hours back home (getting drunk before the walk helped)

now thats a bad place to be. i too got busted 8 days over due but the cop had wrote me 5 other tickets, so he let me slide on the getting impounded, this was a county cop and there sole propose in life is to write equipment violations.

i got miss use of reg, expired reg, unsecured load, no cover on the bed of my truck, front tires stuck out past the fender flare by 1/2 inch, and get this a 1200 dollar ticket for being over weight, and because i was unregistered, i was 100% over weight, and they wanted 1200 bucks for the fine, i talked them down to 600 at court, and had miss use of reg tossed out because technically i had no reg to miss use lol.

so that was around a 1000 dollar court date.

Wow, after even just the 1,000 dollar bill I'd rather a tow, don't know who had it worse, thinking you lol.

I'm grateful to be in MA though, although a lot of people complain, our vehicular laws (pertaining to enthusiast) really aren't all that strict compared to some states.

FL has no emissions laws at all, the tickets here are pretty tiny, and the speed limits rarely drop below 45 where I live. I probably could get away with driving without a registration, but I refuse to break the law knowingly. The last couple months I had no idea my registration was expired. I assumed that having paid full price I'd be good till October.

Sounds horrible to me. I had my registration overdue for like 4 months last year, and a cop that was driving through the parking lot just happened to notice and stopped to kindly remind me to renew it. No written warning or anything. He didn't even get out of his car.

It's not like you gain anything by by waiting to renew anyway. The new registration still expires at the same time each year. I could understand a small fine, but jumping straight to having your car towed? That's harsh.

mine's up in a month, and i think i'm gonna wait to renew it for a week or two... possibly getting my license suspended next week so i figure i'll use that money to pay the fines and court costs. anybody know how adult traffic court goes? i've only been through it as a juvenile. cop said i was doing 120+, but i'm sure i never did triple digits. knowing that i was following a car limited to 115, and i was a mile or so behind him, i figure i'll try to get it down to less than 30 over and let them fine the f*ck out of me but keep my license. he didn't have radar, just paced me.

anyways, sorry for the threadjack. my temp tag on my firebird expires saturday and i don't have the memorandum title yet, i'll be kinda upset about that

It does suck there are stated that are worse...

Me: "what's the ticket price gonna be?"
Officer: "oh, no ticket, we are just gonna tow it"

Im kinda in the same boat.. cops messed up on a ticket that was never given to me (funny how that works) and the court was having issues telling the SOS here that the ticket really wasnt supposed to have been issued (cop never handed it to me). So they told me theres a chance my license is suspended... And ill never know until I get pulled over lol

That's not nice. : \

After the last time I broke the law I swore I would never do so willingly and knowingly again. I take my promises quite seriously. :P

I worked with a guy who unknowingly had an expired tag, was out drinking and got pulled over for the tag and got a DUI. Funny part of this story is the very next year did the exact same thing and got another DUI. DUI's are not funny, but getting two for the same reason almost a year to the day apart is. Both times he actually passed the roadside sobriety test and both times got arrested anyways and had to blow at the jail and was like 1-2 points away each time. First cost him 3k to get out of second cost 6k.

Woaho! The S#^t gets better. I called the BMV today to figure out why I couldn't renew my plates online. It turns out that when I registered my car, someone else registered their car within minutes. We were both assigned THE SAME PLATE NUMBER. So there's another guy out there with my plate running around. Both of us are legal. He, however, gets to keep the plate because he renewed first.

I, while being in FL, have to send my registration and whatnot to my father's house to be assigned a NEW PLATE. Woohoo! The good news here is that the BMV will only charge me the cost of a renewal (and a $5 late fee) for assigning me a new plate, since it's their fault in the first place.

Life never stops being interesting.
