Hood Prop Rod and Strut Hoods Interchangeable?

I need to replace my rod prop hood with another hood (deer damage) and the junk yard only has a strut style hood. It's a '97 GTP. Are they both basically the same except for the hole that the rod goes in to? Are the hinges the same? Thank you!

Oh, and I'm not a "new" member, was on here a couple of years ago, but couldn't remember my ID, so had to make a new one up. I know, DUH @ ME lol

Thank you. I did go to the junkyard to see what their hood looked like, was worse than mine! I left my phone in the car and couldn't take a pic of theirs or I would have so I could be 100% sure the hinges would work on mine. Hinges looked similar to mine, maybe I should start a thread to ask someone with another '97 to take a pic or two of theirs that have the strut style hinges? Maybe being a woman I might be too "picky", but not going to take a chance on going to another yard with 2 vehicles, my GTP and my son's truck to get it back home in, lots of gas when you're talking about a yard almost an hour from home.

Thank you. The hood at the yard DID have the hole for the prop rod, but had the struts on it, no prop rod whatsoever, so I'm thinking that maybe most all of the early hoods had the hole for the prop rod whether or not it had it or the struts...? I guess it's a GM thing. lol

Yeah, in the first year of production they do some interesting things. Some Regals had external antennas while the rear windshield was being made with the antenna in it.

They sure do! Didn't they do that with the GP antennas, too? I've got the prop rod, but have the rear window antenna. Also, it used to have the auto-dimming rear view mirror, as it still has the 3 "prong" wire tucked up in the headliner, but the woman I bought it from replaced it with a regular mirror. One of these days, when I'm rich, I'll be replacing it with another auto-dimmer. lol

The JY here sells mirrors for I think $20. You could get yourself a nice autodim compass one

Heck.. for $35 or so I nabbed an autodim, homelink, compass off ebay from a maxima murano
