Hood Clearance questions

ok so im in my final stages of my XPZ cam build. Put the hood on to see where it was going to touch cause i knew i was going to have to do it. But where it touches i cant cut cause otherwise i would be cutting straight through the hood. What should i do? I have a Carbon Fiber PFYC SD hood so u know. And i also have cradle spacers. Can i double up?

I know there has been a **** ton of talk about this but i need some replies on this because mine is a different circumstance.

Thanks,
Colin

it'll look better on my car,...seriously i wish i had something good to tell ya, i'll shut-up now

^looks terrible....you got any pics? is it to much to just take out some braces? or is it hittin sheet metal. You can always "custom" dent your hood like the 1st and 2nd gen DSM cars...that looked....ok i guess lol. Or run no hood, much much cheaper

Yeah, just sell it.

You'd actually make money. :th_thumbsup-wink:

All i've gotta say is, you've bought heads yet you don't want to buy a turn down to get the hood to close?

this build has drained me dude. so thats all i gotta say.

But anyways pittman, and everybody else, i think i got it. I forgot to even re adjust the hood latch since i had the whole thing torn apart. I moved it up and it latches no problem. Doesnt sound like its hitting so i might be able to get away without having to do any modifications. But am just going to to put so foam tape on the hood where the highest points would be.

take some paint of any kind, as long as its wet and bright, close the hood, and reopen and look for a mark on the hood. old school body trick i've used alot with any mods that stick up. Also you can always remove your insulator if you already haven't and get a little extra, even though its not a big deal if its rubbing that

its not a stock hood so it doesnt have the insulation. is there anything else i can use cause i dont wanna put paint on the newly polished blower to see if it touches?

wet paint is the best, in the shop we just use single stage auto paint since it takes awhile to dry, if you use house paint and dab it on there, drop the hood, lift it, and wipe it off right away i wouldnt imagine it would leave any residue, if it does a little laquer thinner will do the trick. Other then paint i have no clue what you could use, maybe someone else can chime in

bbptech you have a few options...none of which you will be happy with.

First and foremost you need to find out where it is hitting...and estimate how much room you need to clear. Here are your options:

1. Get a stock hood.
2. Get a smaller IC
3. Run with no hood
4. Buy the turndown and hope it's enough!
5. Double up on cradle spacers**

**Doubling up on the spacers is a BADDDD idea man. You have already taken the CV joints and axles out of geometry with the first set...making it doubled will mean vibration and premature axle wear. I do NOT recommend bringing the cradle down lower than one set.

I have the same exact problem that you have. There is a line between performance and aesthetics on these cars. Why ZZP and other brands don't design an IC core that will fit under the aftermarket hoods available to us is beyond me. But the truth of the matter is you might have to choose.....sweet hood or sweet speed.

I think im gonna be able to get away with sweet hood and sweet speed. Did the paint trick pittman mentioned and no paint touched the hood.

Glad to hear, though I think you'll still have to cut it. You won't know untill it is on and latched but, if you do look up Brett (99blackgt) on club gp. he has an identical setup hood, IC and all and he ended up cutting the hood.

Thank u UR LOSN and Pontiackid.

I know exactly who ur talkin bout. Ive talked to him over the phone a couple times to get some advice. real cool dude
