honest opinion on maaco

shouldn't need to if the panels are not on the car, just lay down color and feather the edges so you don't get thick lines of paint around them
 


Maccos can be a hit or miss I hear some who have good experience there when either they did the prep or prep was needed. Personally I had them paint my SE lip and back extension as well a gauge pillar a few years ago. I think I paid $100 total they did a fantastic job still looks good to this day. Now would have then paint my car...no but for little **** I wouldn't mind.
 


go for it, maaco has 3 or 4 "levels" of paint. Their top level will cost you 4-5k, prime/base/clear. Their stage 1 is a gloss coat, no clear. It also depends on who is doing the work, like any other place if the guy takes pride in his work, it will be A+. If its a guy looking for a paycheck, ya you get what you pay for. I think crystal lake or the mchenry one does a decent job from what i have researched in the past.
 
well there is only a 15 min difference between the two. i was thinking about raymonds chevy body shop id get a quote from along with plantinum collision in grayslake
 
try R&M in round lake off of 134. Iv seen them turn out some fancy ****. I got a quote from them on my other car and it wasnt as high as the other fancy places.
 


Maaco, is like AAmco (thanks for that, name creativity) They're franchised, so each shop is going to be different quality of work/workers/service than the other. Read reviews in your area. Some people rave about it, others would rather use a rattle can and probably get better results. That said, like others said...you do get what you pay for. Unless you have one of the crappy Maacos.
 
One of the things I do is become buddies with a body shop. Cash is always king and they don't usually mind a small job of .. "if I drop off the hood and other part". Cause they just prop it up..spray and bake it when a car is in the booth.
 
Had a friend put 2 cars into maaco for paint got the first one back and told them not even to touch the second one
They painted over the original paint leaving dirt on it so the new paint had bumps which turned into chips reveiling the old paint underneith
 
Maaco = junk.

I couldn't even buy quality materials for the price they charge for a paint job. They use cheap ass low quality paint, and do terrible work.

If you don't want to do it yourself, ask around. I am sure there is someone who does paint and body on the side who can do it cheap.
 
They do horrible work. They dont even take license plates off when they paint. I used them a few times on my old car. Took the front bumper back FIVE times because they didnt prep it at all so the bug paint chips it had in it would come back within a week. They did it for free everytime, and everytime they did it exactly the same. Ended up being more of a waste of my time then theirs apparently and gave up on it. I found a much better shop when I had my current car fully repainted. Price is decent but the work is A++++.

Bottom line, if you dont mind taking you car back to get painted weekly go with Maaco. If you want something done right and that'll last dont ever use them...
 


Paint work can be compared to modding 3800s.... you get what you pay for but that being said a 3.4 pulley setup is probably good for most people...
 
I wanna know if you guys paid for the $5,000 paint job or the single stage no prime no clear just a gloss "paint" 20cent one.
 
It does matter, maaco is KNOWN for cheap paint jobs. So usually when you GO THERE your looking for a quick paint job. Hey freshly painted $3,000obo! Boom 6 months later is a pos. $500 single stage is a big cry from their top of the line prime/base/clear $5k job.
