Homemade Bags

Nothing yet. Still trying to find a bag with a big enough hole in the center to clear the struts. Also still trying to find a strut from a different car that is shorter

just send bag riders a set of stock struts and say you want a set of coilover bags that'll match how these mount up.

then get a V2 management with e-level.

fork over $4000.

I actually emailed bag riders before I bought the ones I have now.

Here's what Anthony sent me.

Hey,

None of our suppliers have built a setup for your application, but that doesn't mean that we can't get a setup together that works for you! We can piece together a universal setup for your Grand Prix, but we will need a few measurements to ensure that we choose components that will work. Pictures are a *huge* help with this process, so the more pictures you can send our way the easier it will be for us to make sure your kit will work. Please also understand that it is very likely if not mandatory that there will be some custom fabrication and welding required to make a universal setup work on your car. So long as you're comfortable with this and doing the work, we can get started on figuring out the right components. The initial measurements we need are as follows:

The diameter of your strut towers at the most restrictive point
The overall length of the suspension currently on the car
The overall diameter of the spring
Clearance around the springs (the closest point to another object)

At your convenience, get back to me with those measurements and pictures then myself and the team here at Bag Riders will get to work on figuring out your custom setup.*

Thanks,

Anthony

Odds are i'll end up on coils again cause I know I can do those for under $750. Air ride would be extremely nice but it's probably going to end up costing me more than I want to spend. And there's the the battle of trying to find shorter struts. That battle is present with doing coils as well.

Alix you don't happen to know the length of your air struts do you?

I do not man sorry, i do know they are significantly shorter though, the strut rod is prob a good 3"-4" shorter than the stock ones. Bags are not cheap i will tell you this right meow lol. If i were to go back and do it all over again i would prob just go coils to be honest.... but then i push that drop button and say yep glad i didnt go coils hahaha;)

Still speculating. Pulled this off a truck the other day. Need to find something like this that's closer to what I need.

The universal kit from bag riders is the way to go. I might be able to find some part numbers but when I had to rebuild my struts for bags, I just ordered bare struts from bag riders that were way shorter than stock and just reused the old brackets.

In my opinion, its gonna be easier to fabricate brackets for the universal set than it will be to 1. salvage struts from another car 2. cut spring perches 3. figure out threaded bags/custom mounting brackets 4. make sure that everything clears 5. make sure that struts can handle the bag pressure (or else you're in for a super bouncy ride)

Reliable and cheap don't usually go together so starting with a universal kit would be my choice. Plus that comes with the support of bag riders because they know their products. They can't help much if everything is pieced together from various places

Just reuse the stock mounts for the back and you could use stock ones for the front, but fabricating something might not be too hard. I think stock mounts up front would cost you an inch or two in lowness but fabricating front mounts would be pretty easy. The ones I had were just flat steel triangle shapes.

for the price of the struts just send them to bagriders and have them send you back something complete. that's seriously what i would do if i were going with a universal route.

i don't care for major fab being completed by yours truly.

I'm not sure bagriders will do something like that. I thing they just assist in choosing which parts will fit best and then its up to you to figure out how to make the brackets

I've been looking for new struts lately too. I think these ones are on their way out.

Ive tried searching the number stamped into the strut. However, nobody has just the bare strut listed.

Also you're gonna want a double convoluted bag instead of the sleeve style you found. I have the number for the air bellows on my car, but I think they're old and they don't make them anymore. I think I remember finding one that replaced it. If you're still interested in pricing something together.
